Do you think they are gonna sack her now for the terrible job she is doing for COVID? any other mayor on the mainland would have been gone and removed from the party by now. I had always thought she did things half arsed and now its really coming to bite....

Doubtful and unwise, election is coming up in a few months. If the Chinese government wanted to replace her, Carrie Lam would be asked not to enter the race. Carrie Lam might not be a great leader but She didn't abandon her post during the color revolution. The central government is still willing to tolerate her.

What do you guys think of Regina "Iron lady" Ip as the next chief executive of H.K. I recently read her opinion piece on SCMP and I must say I like her pragmatic and realist approach on geopolitics, local politics, and her overall approach on governing which seems to be in line with how the CPC maybe prefers the City to be run.

She needs a better PR team, because her words are very easily manipulated by biased media. However, take a step back the problem doesn't lie with the CE, but in the government system. Getting national security law implemented is step 1 of the entire journey to take power away from the tycoons and reform the land-selling government funding system, as well as make HK elites okay with mainland integration, which push comes to shove they want to be Western.

Just like US president doesn't really matter, neither does HKs. Tung Chee Hwa did his best but was ousted by the tycoon-controlled pan democrats, so until mainland decides to be properly hands on, we're still a long ways from the core issue.

HK needs to change to a land use scheme similar to Singapore where the state controls urban development.
People pay into a fund and are guaranteed a house.

The Chinese government never trusts Regina. That's why she is passed from consideration for a few times already. I would say that the Chinese government did have credible reasons to assess who qualify and who isn't qualify. A few other candidates were later found to be too close with oppositions. As for Regina, she didn't speak up against riot in 2019. Only a few politicians have stand firm against those rioters. Most other politicians including Regina seem wanting to capitulate. I seriously doubt the central government would ever consider Regina as she is deemed as untrustworthy.
