Likely Lone wolf but I'm sure there is an online community which has been made aware of this by the terrorist himself. No one wants to go out without an acknowledgement, especially if they believe its for a wider cause
Technically can any attack be lone wolf? While the attack may/may not be coordinated but he was radicalized enough to do this. This radicalisation took place either online or offline. In either case there must be some platform/individuals involved who brainwashed this man to carry out a suicide attack .
Hopefully the NSL will find out.

Yes. Attacks can be lone wolf. In reality, most attacks are lone wolf.

Self radicalization is a thing. Some communities are a cesspool - a different reality altogether. You aren't coerced to do it - you partake in self-radicalization together with a community. The community may not ask or coerce you into it ( because that usually doesn't work.) You have to decide to do it yourself.

Then you SNAP! It depends on your personal circumstances and the point you are in life. Usually, very depressed people with little to live for and have suicidal tendencies partake in these lone wolf attacks.

Let's put that into perspective here - HK youths are living in cramped rooms. Most of them are very active online and they get radicalized in these chat rooms or communities. The fact that anti-establishment is celebrated as "heroic" gives them the extra vigor and impetus.

One good mundane Saturday a message arrives in the chat group -

" Guys, grab some popcorns. I am planning to throw a surprise for you all!"

Seriously, haven't you guys seen the Jachie Chan flick - New Police Story?

Good points.

The authorities should investigate his digital records, and see on which online groups/apps/news websites (looking at you, Apple Daily..) he was radicalized.

Nobody gets radicalised in a vacuum. Let the authorities to investigate where all this mess started and take necessary measures to prevent that from happening.

Wouldnt surprise me if he was a radicalised "anti-CCP" "freedom-loving" guy. NSL should be applied in the case then

Let's be honest to ourselves here - it'll be playing whack-a-mole for trying to find these online groups. The best place nowadays are Game chat rooms and other "niche" places.

Anyplace like-minded people congregate can become a reinforcer of self-radicalization. People who self-radicalize start to pick sources that reinforce their confirmation bias and steer away from sources that doesn't fully conform to their radicalization interests.

The best the Chinese authorities can do is to keep a tab on these sources rather than shut them down entirely-keep it from spreading but don't destroy it completely.

The SCMP editor hit the nail on the head. Put it better than I did.

For all of you discussing clamping down on radicalization, the biggest culprit are not chatrooms, but probably western media. They are always portraying these people as champions. I had posted way back, I think in 2019, that these rioters have some aspects in common with incels. Now we have a lone-wolf attack not unlike the one that occurred in Toronto a few years ago, carried out by a lonely psycho.

No one in Toronto would EVER lay a wreath for that incel guy. I never heard of any tributes for Ismayil Brinley (the NYPD killer). These people publicly feting an attempted murder is totally f*ked up... pardon my language, but there is simply no other way to put it. If things are so twisted, it arguably is a worse situation than Xinjiang.

HK needs to do much more as a society and a territory.
China also needs to do much more ( some harsh and some benevolent) as the country HK is part of.

I won't go into what HK people and society ought to do ( because its as long as the shopping list of a mom of seven children). But China needs to fix the Housing issue and the lopsided economics of HK through "Chinese socialist" means.

And Chinese socialist methods can be anti democratic and even anti- rights. So be it. No one is calling for death to the landlords.

Thanks @supersnoop

Yes I do read his Friday journals. But thanks anyway. There's so much wrong with that fat Lai. And US clandestine activities. I dont know where to start. Except to say I hate him with a passion.

People like him and that other traitor Wong deserve to rot in hell.

These people worship the whites with absolute devotion even though the whites despice them with every fibre in their body. Tale this Wong traitor who self proclaimed to be a Churchill admirer. Yet Churchill hated the colour of his skin with passion.
