Harbin Y-12 cost

...I'd love to have a fleet of Twotters, problem is, so does everybody else. They are hard to get in matching aircraft, and very expensive. But the thing is, since the Y-12IV appeared, they have not had any accidents. And the accidents they typically had before were either from overloading the plane, or flying in bad conditions without benefit of EPGW gear, or other advanced navaids. But there have been over 220 Y-12IV's or Twin Pandas built in the last few years, and none of them have crashed.....

is currently working on getting the Twin Otter back into production. They just need to secure enough orders to start. You can read their brochure:

I suggest you give them a call and make inquiries, their phone and e-mail address are listed in the brochure.

An-70? What route and what payload are you thinking of flying and hauling?

The problem will be of course certification in Canada. Transport Canada is an absolute nitpicker when it comes to certifying airplanes in Canada. Every nut, bolt, and screw has to be traced, and any mods, repairs made to the airplane must be done to their standards, and there is a lot of incompatibility between what is allowed as a mod or repair with the American FAA and Transport Canada. Therefore, it is best to get aircraft that are Western certified and built which will mean less red tape to get the aircraft into Canada and registered. There are some Eastern bloc aircraft in Canada, majority are operating on a temporary certificate, but the few that are registered in Canada, such as VIH Logging Ltd's Kamov Helix's, were extensively rebuilt from the ground up even though these were new airframes to comply with Canadian standards.

Of course, you could have the airplane registered elsewhere, but you will receive a lot of harassment from Transport Canada, as they will itch to try to find a way to get your birds grounded.

The big Antonov's would be used to procure reduced cost goods from various northeastern USA Tradeports. This would remove a signifigant cost portion of middlemen from the handling of the products. They will also perform heartpounding 20ton deliveries periodically to some of those 600 meter strips, although hopefully not to often. Frankly I may be able to contract those services seasonally with Ruslan as well. One of the great attractions to the Y12IV is that it already has Transport Canada's smiling acceptance. Already procured by the Twin Panda project.....

Best of luck to your project!

I'd imagine there are many villages scattered among Canada's great northern wilderness that would benefit greatly from your service.

Heck even a cheap air ferry from Powell River to Vancouver would prolly help, hehe.

....Oh, boy, I hope we are that successful one day. We are starting on the Atlantic Maritimes coastal area however. The key however is to intergrate the services together to provide overlapping support. There should be no geographic limit to deploying it. Only a demand or lack of service....

.....For the main fleet I'm looking at the Beriev BE-32K, Harbin Y-12IV, Let L420 and Viking Air Twin Otter. For Airlifters, really the AN-70 is the only benefical type I can foresee, all the others do not even come close to putting 20 tons on a 600 meter strip. From the Hub out to Major areas, I might look to buy four IL-114's or AN-140's and two AN-148 or TU-414. Then for alternate local service, six AN-38-120's and 8 LA-8 Amphibians will be needed. The AN-38 will be of Side seat configuration so they can double as local freighters, the LA-8 will serve the tourist, hunting and mining concerns...

Four years after the last post on this thread. Did you end up getting the Harbin Y-12? I'm also thinking purchasing two of the aircraft for inter-island runs in the Central Pacific (Kiribati). If so, how did you fare? And if not, why not?

It's difficult to get information on how to purchase or Dry Lease the Y-12. I hope you were successful.

If any else can help on the latest purchase price or dry lease, it would be more than appreciated. Also does anyone know if the Manufacturer have international sales agents?
