Duh. My friend, a wholly unneeded comment.
I think it is rather needed actually, because having a clear photo showing a missile has been on an aircraft vs having a photo showing missile+aircraft to try to extrapolate dimensions are two very different things.
After all it's not like the topic of YJ-12s dimensions is one which hasn't been discussed to great length.
To get back on track with more relevant comments: I guess without knowing the weight of AKD-20 and weight of YJ-12 it's going to be hard deducing much. I do hope for PLANAF's sake that H-6K will be able to carry 6, as otherwise the whole decision to make the YJ-12 so large that JH-7 can't carry any wouldn't have been *as* worth it and *as* sensible.
Probably more relevant going forwards is whether J-16/15 can carry YJ-12, but even then I'm not sure where the missile fits in the PLAN's overall AShM order of battle.
YJ-12 is in service with H-6 variants, as well as a limited few surface combatant classes (currently only 051B but perhaps soon the refitted Sovs). Meanwhile the rest of the main destroyers (055/52D) use YJ-18 and the 052Cs use YJ-62s and frigates and Corvettes use the lighter YJ-83s.
Seems to me there is a bit of a demarcation between heavier YJ-18/12/62 vs the much lighter YJ-83, the latter of which is obviously far more suitable for being carried by tactical strike aircraft in terms of weight class.
The problem is that a YJ-83 weight class missile probably isn't going to be able to achieve particularly serviceable range if you designed a supersonic missile around those weight parameters
