There had been a rumor that the Raptor was also going to be at this airshow...but alas, it turned out to not be so....the Raptor is very stealthy, and very fast, and flies very high,,,, all it need do is escort the 10 or so F-35s it will escort, while the F-35 has great situational awareness, they raptor will hold the high-ground, like the 50BMG man, that vantage alone will put it above many threats, and sensor fusion will enable the Raptor to target for the F-35s much like a mini awacs. It is likely the Raptor will operate as a two ship, picking off the sticky buggers from above, but it will function very well in conjunction with the F-35s.
What a great deal that would have been to see the only two production 5th generation stealth aircraft on display together.
But I was very, very happy nonetheless with what we did get to see.
BTW, the personnel at the show with the F-35s told me that the aircraft on the left (not the one I and my grandosns are in the picture with)...this aircraft:
...had only arrived LUKE AFB one week before flying over to the show. It was only like 2-3 weeks old, hot off the production line according to these gentlemen.
