For me, the biggest thing that happened to China in 2025 is that it's the year it fully established itself as a superpower. China has probably been there a couple of years ago, but this was the year it was undeniable by anyone paying attention. The most decisive moment for me was when Trump put tariffs on everyone in the world and while just about everyone else folded, China didn't blink. The US kept on pushing the tariff up, 50%, 100%, 200%, and it was the US itself that ended up backing down. And this is why, despite all the prognostication and the doomsayers, it's impossible to deny China's superpower status. When only one country in the world can go tit for tat with the US, and the Americans are the ones to give up, everyone can see what's going on and what the implications are.
