In the book, Russia starts out economically allied with the Chinese and Indians, and militarily alinged with them as well.

It is only after Russia is attacked in a Barbarosa II operation that she joins with the west.

Had Russia stayed economically allied with, and militarily alinged with the Chinese...the outcome could very well have been differemnt.

As could also well have been the case (at least IMHO) in World War II.

Personally, my thought is that given how we're aggravating Russia nowadays, they're probably going to start shooting at us first and then the Chinese and Indians will jump in.

Personally, I don't think so. But that is just my opinion.

These is still a slight potential for direct confrontation between Russian forces and US forces in Serbia and/or Kosovo...but I think that actual hostilities or direct confrontation between US forces and Chinese forces over a Taiwan escalation is more likely.

Hopefully neither will actually come to pass.

Russia's current actions in the Caucasus shows a willingness to use covert and overt means to sabotage and intimidate their opponents, the Chinese government has only used trade, investment and other incentive to influence the democratic process in Taiwan.

I think that should show who is more willing to use force and cause a potential outbreak of war.

Uh...exactly how many hundreds (perhaps thousands) of ballistic missiles have been positioned exactly opposite Taiwan and are targeting them?

Official statements from the PRC indicate that if the Taiwan people or their duly elected officials vote a certain way, then that would be a pretext for war.

I would say both of those are fairly military methods of influencing the democratic process as well.

But...we drfit far afield from the purpose of this thread, which is to discuss a fictional novel, and are also dangerously bordering on a discussion that would get the thread closed by the moderators. So I will end my part in any such further discussion and urge others to do the same.

Hi Jeff,

I have just recently finished your book. Outside of some political/societal part, I thoroughly enjoyed your book like I did when I watched star wars for the first time. I thought the naval warfare, weapons development, and the epic troop movement detailed in the book were eye opening, and I constantly looked at the globe at my table to keep track of force deployment with a tally of enemy/allied troop numbers.

Did you ever read Invasion by Eric L. Harry? He spend most of his time on infantry battles, but sadly the stellar book had a barebone conclusion. :(

In addition, I was sort of puzzled as why Mecca was destroyed by US forces when it is a city of Saudi Arabia and thus would plague relations with Saudi Arabians and the majority of secular Muslims in the world. I wished events would have folded differently that would have allowed the city to survive but the fundamental muslims be pounded into dust.

I was pleasantly surprised at the term "red chinese" since Tom Clancy's overt use of chinks and chinese klingons really annoyed me in his unmentinable failure of a book.

Thanks for the comments and the critique. I am really glad you enjoyed the book and the story.

In the book, Mecca was destroyed precisely because the fundamntal/extremist/jihadist chose themselves to make a battle there and committed atrocities against allied negotiators and their team under a flag of truce.

But that was a fictional tale...nothing more.

I tried to balance the stories of land, air, and sea warfare throughout the book, but will admit to be an ardent student of naval matters and so more naval fighting and strategies probably do come across...though I have not done an actual count.

Again, sincere thanks for your reasoned comments, your critique, and your compliments.
