The cab could house the controls for the pumps and associated equipment.
But, you are right, so, big LOL.

I think the only explanation to rise the cab is to not enter in to the water. By the way this is not look like an amphibious wehicle (to unstable). It only enter in to the water to lounch something.

Nice try, but no. 8T311 actually looks just as a regular truck.
All of the answers were clever, i enjoyed reading last page of the thread, but you still haven't guessed it. So i think we should move to the next picture.

This vehicle is a TEL, it's code is 9P116. The name of the system - 9K74. In short words a helicopter-mobile Shaddock. Here you can see couple other pictures:

The name of the carrier heli was Mi-10RVK. 4 of those vehicles were built, system was never accepted into service, but 4 TELs remained operational untill 1965 when Soviet Army got rid of it's ground launched cruise missiles.
The waterline thing was probably painted just to confuse anyone who sees it.
Basically 9P116 is a launch tube with cabin, engine compartment and four wheels attached to it. It used a hybrid transmission powered by 350hp aircraft auxiliary turbine. Before the launch whole vehicle elevated it's rear part over the two wheels, you can see long helical gears there (yeah it seems to use helical gears instead of hydraulics, probably to use rear engines' power instead of introducing hydraulic system).
Similar systems were designed for Luna and Elbrus missiles, both on Mi-6 platform.

Can't figure out, who should post the next picture. Anyway, since none have been posted, I'll fill the gap.

That one is much easier to guess, however the picture is the only one known to me.
Hope it's not a repost.
