Why would China refuse to engage in space to begin with?

You know the answer. It was never about cooperation. The US is only interested in China giving them unfettered access to information and data to civilian and military projects that are related to space. They complain about the “lack of transparency” from China while at the same time says the same rules don’t apply to us.

Reddit was forced to ban several Chinese language subs full of Chinese people for being too anti-China and too racist towards Chinese people! real_China_irl is now an adult only sub because of extreme anti-China content. Again these are Chinese language subs full of Chinese people.

Do not follow American social media sites in Chinese. Besides normal Taiwanese content, it is overwhelmingly of prostitutes, fringe political movements of China and FLG. It seems most Chinese diaspora write in local languages and most Chinese are on Chinese social media sites. Twitter and especially Reddit (a rather "underground" social media outside the USA) draw in Chinese who want to write things they wouldn't be able to write on Weibo.

This fits my experience in Shenzen too. Facebook was used for finding prostitutes primarily.

I always follow anti-China forums, whether its r/China, China_irl, pincong or anti-China twitter personalities like Baldingsworld or Josh Rogin. This is how you get to understand what they are thinking. If they are attacking something in particular you can be sure it will slowly get to mainstream anti-China thinking, mainstream western media also gets idea from these places and it eventually can lead to policy action by the west.

For example, right now all these anti-China places are full of attacking Palestianians and supporting Israel content. So, China has truly lost the limelight even in China forums.

During Covid, the lableak theory was peddled by these places long before the mainstream media ever did. These places also came up with the theory China faking its GDP growth or China building too much just to inflate GDP growth. Now regular western media regularly makes them same arguments.

I found a news article that talks about these subs:

China’s banned online communities have found a new home on Reddit

"Since then, the subreddit, known as r/China_irl in English, has grown into one of the largest Chinese-language subreddits on the platform, with over 180,000 subscribers."

The absence of Chinese government censorship has empowered users to speak their minds, but also encouraged more extreme opinions. In May 2022, Reddit banned r/cltv, a subreddit known for its strong anti-China sentiments and hateful speech, for doxxing other users. R/cltv (a variation of r/chonglangtv) originated from Chinese discussion forum Kanagawa Chonglang Hub, a controversial community on Baidu Tieba for its rampant use of racial slurs and extreme anti-China views.

How do you like visiting those sites, including the subreddit r/China_irl. Those sites are just a cesspool of frustrated, angry losers that thinks they can govern the country better or run successful companies only if the dastardly See See Pee was not in their way to make themselves rich and glorious. They simply hide away their true intent and miserable failures and existence by placing the blame on the See See Pee, rather than on their actions and the shitty choices they made.

Most of the mainland Chinese I encounter are probably good people, and few are quite anti-China and western loving folks. The men who hates China tends to be gay, skinny ASF, the girls are white-worshipping kinds, the middle of the road assumes and want China to forget on resisting the U.S. and the collective west intentions so that they would not face any hardship in life, love, and buying properties. Some hate the intense competition back home and the filial duty to parents, society, and expectations. But my impression of the rabid anti-China Chinese, especially the men are unfortunately scrawny as f...k not to mention unsavory to look at from a shallow point of view. So reading their hilarious take on nuclear strike, warfare, and anything that involves martial topic are just pure comedy. I find them as nothing more than sniveling cowards, incel-types and blame their heritage for not getting laid, or being saddled with "filial" responsibility forced upon them by what they find as barbaric practice unlike the genocidal, cultured-race of White western "enlightened" West. LOL

How so? based on the comments of losers? If the commentary at least tried to be factual, objective even if it's against current Chinese policies or provide some alternative rather than the usual copy and paste western based narrative, then am sorry to say, that's nothing to lose from, and China is better from not having idiots in their midst.

Those are the types of Chinese that also visits the Philippines to gamble, hire prostitutes, abuse local Filipino people which then bring about bad public image and perception of China and the Chinese people in general. And when those losers get caught, they seek and are desperate for the government of China's help and if they are truly deranged and desperate, they just pretend they're some sort of spy and would seek political refuge by reciting anti-See See Pee rants and bingo they get to have a new gig as the case in Australia.

China losing the limelight is actually a good thing. It means less anti-China action will come from the west. China is essentially fighting a defensive battle of keeping market access, western tech, western customers as much as possible so that China can grow richer in peace. They would prefer that the west is focusing on other enemies and regions.

Recent DOD article about China having 500 nukes is now all the way bottom news in Google News. In the past this would be number 1 news, essentially front page content. Anti-China opnion pieces have also reduced quite a bit.
