They applied to work in a semiconductor company and complained about mask?
I once heard an anecdote about an American semiconductor company that had two fabs in the US and two fabs in Asia. The company's Asian fabs consistently achieved much better yields than the US fabs. The Asian fabs were upgraded first to the next process node and quickly reached 90+% yields while the US fabs still struggled to get 60% yields on the previous generation process node. Instead of also upgrading the US fabs to the next process node, the company ended up just shutting them down. Attitudes shown in the glassdoor reviews explain a lot of why fabs of the same company with the same access to technical know-how, equipment, procedures, etc. can perform so differently.
