On a unrelated note, perhaps that's how neanderthal DNA propagated in homo sapiens population.

100 million years ago cats and humans were one and same species... Go back far enough all life branched out from the same root of the tree of evolution... with dna itself being the common denominator database...

Alien life out there may be carbon based but would not use dna
