The Chinese marine Corps is very similar to the Royal Marines in that they are both specialized units unlike the USMC which is basically naval infantry. PLAMC will only be called upon if there is an amphibious element to a particular theatre of operations where it will spearhead a landing and establish a beach-head while heavier army units move in to reinforce. But even within the PLAMC, there are units which specializes in different fields e.g. recon, demolition,etc. In this aspect, they are very similar to the marine force recon of the USMC.
