world Maritime News said:
A French Navy frigate had to be towed to naval base in Pointe De La Galets, La Reunion having been disabled after a severe engine fire that broke out on September 30th.

The frigate Nivôse was steaming her way toward Mauritius in the Indian Ocean when the fire started.

Fortunately, the frigate’s sister ship, Floreal, was in the vicinity and was able to assist the fire-stricken ship’s crew in containing the fire. No injuries have been reported.

Initial reports indicate that the damage on the vessel is extensive.

Once the fire was extinguished on Tuesday morning, the vessel had lost propulsion power, electricity, water supply and air conditioning and had to be taken in tow.

As part of the EURONAVAL Press Tour, Navy Recognition visited Piriou shipyard in Concarneau. About one year following the christenning of Almak training ship, we asked a DCI representative about the first return of experience. We also witnessed the good progress on the first hull of the French Navy's future B2M ship. Finally we were shown some of the new patrol vessel designs that will be unveilled by Kership (a joint Piriou-DCNS company) during Euronaval 2014.

CMN Unveils the Innovative OCEAN EAGLE 43 Mine Hunter for Euronaval 2014
qRWBwID.jpg

Following the innovative ship concepts unveiled in the past few years (such as the Ocean Eagle 43, the Combattante SWAO 53 and FS56) CMN, the Cherbourg based shipyard, unveils for Euronaval 2014 yet another innovation: The OCEAN EAGLE 43 MH . Building on the experience gained during the development of the OCEAN EAGLE 43, whose first units will be put in the water at the end of 2014, CMN has declined its iconic trimaran design in mine warfare version with strong multirole capabilities.

Rafale can be shot down like 'mosquitoes by Chinese-made Sukhoi': Russian envoy

New Delhi | October 18, 2014

Russia's Ambassador to India, Alexander M. Kadakin, said the Dassault Aviation-manufactured fighter aircraft could be shot down like a mosquito by a Chinese-manufactured or produced Sukhoi jet should there ever be a conflict in the neighbourhood. Ambassador Kadakin, who was attending an interaction between Russian and Indian journalists in the national capital yesterday, said, "We (Russia) are still very surprised that Rafale is being bought, because if the Rafale is intended to oppose Pakistani or Chinese planes, then the Sukhoi which the Chinese produce, or mobilizes, but which is only 50 percent of the Sukhoi which you (India) produce, then even for the Chinese Sukhoi, these Rafales will be like mosquitoes on an August night. They will be shot down like mosquitoes.
