Focus on French – US maneuvers
The French Navy likely named the Operation “Bois Belleau” (Belleau Wood, a famous WWI battle that took place in France and involved the US Army and US Marine Corps) because some major joint Marine Nationale (French Navy) – U.S. Navy maneuvers and exercises are planned. According to the French Navy, operation Bois Belleau will enable the French and US navies to reach the highest level of cooperation to date. The U.S. Carrier Battle Group formed around the Nimitz class Aircraft Carrier USS Harry S. Truman, will be present in the Arabian Sea and the Persian Gulf at the same time. There will be a joint deployment and close cooperation for five weeks between the two CVBGs. France and the United States are leading strategic partners and the only nations to deploy nuclear-powered aircraft carriers capable of projecting massive fire-power.
The Ecume is the first Special Forces RHIB with diesel engine. It is capable of water raids over long distances as well as ships assaults at sea. Delivery of the 9 vessels is scheduled for the first half of 2015. The order follows the evaluation of the prototype boat by teams from the DGA and French Navy. These evaluations were successfully completed in late November 2013.
The Ecume comes with an airdrop system allowing urgent and distant deployement directly at sea with C130 Hercules, C160 Transal or Atlas A400M military transport aircraft.
'France loses out on Brazil jets deal'
France will lose out in its bid to win a multibillion-dollar fighter jet contract with Brazil, the Folha de Sao Paulo daily reported Saturday.
The newspaper set France's $4 billion proposal for 36 Rafale fighter jets, from a consortium led by French giant Dassault, will be shot down for cost reason. It did not say who would be the likely winner of the highly prized contract.
The French bid is up against Boeing's F/A-18 Super Hornet and the Gripen, made by Sweden's Saab, for its FX-2 program......
Brazilian media: “Exit Rafale”
The French made Dassault Rafale fighter aircraft is off the table (again) in the run for Brazil’s next generation fighter, a main quality newspaper of the country reported on 15 December 2013.
According to the Folha São Paulo (rotation 200,000+) the Brazilian government finds the Rafale too expensive to use. That leaves the Swedish Saab JAS 39 Gripen-E/NG and the Boeing F/A-18E/F (Advanced) Super Hornet as the final competitors.
The Gripen has an advantage if Brazil wants brand-new aircraft. Boeing is set to decide to close the Super Hornet’s production line in 2014 if no new orders show up on the horizon. Brazil’s fighter decision is not expected before 2015....
Bad news for French from Brazil ... Although , it could be good news for Boeing (Super Hornet) or Saab (Gripen)
I would not understand any nation purchasing a Gripen as a sea borne naval aircraft..it is unproven as far as i know.
Saab needs to work with the French, Indians or the US to see what this aircraft can do at sea. Have any Sea Gripens been built?

If the Brazillians go for grippen In my view they would have to buy a second type for the navy. The Sea Grippen seems a nice concept but I dont see it translating beyond paper
