I dont' really see the sense of what you're saying. The white part looks like it got handles that can be used to pull the hatch manually. The orange part looks too smooth, and lacks any handles. That has to be on the inside. RAM used in painting warship exteriors are often low contrast white or grey. I would be very surprised to see if any VLS hatch that is painted other than white or grey on the outside.

As for the number of VLS, I would go with what the officially shown model has.

There's no visible handles and also if it would be as you said, then the orange hatches closest to the camera would have to have the joint hinges pointing towards the centre of the ship. That would be in conflict with the previsous pics where the joint hingles of the hathces in the most outwards collums pointing away from the ships central position. If the orange would be the inside colour of the hathces, then there would be visible the joint hinges of the collum that isen't open. There isne't those hinges nor is there a space for them...

What comes to the "official" model, It had the 100mm gun in the place of the 76mm and it had standart Orekhs unlike the actual ships build. I'd say its merely a preminary model showing the concept of the new ship. The total number of the missiles can be determed 100 % when we see a clear and good image taken from above the ship which shows the whole VLS complex.

But Golly, you were the one who, when those first pics came out, was saying: yeah, there are four rows of hinges, but it looks like the lids are very narrow and that two lids (with two hinges) form a cover for one square cell. Lets now not get into the point that's extremely unprobable as it'd make whole construction more complex and unrealiable (if just one of two hinges get stuck, youre screwed), this latest pic proves lids are indeed squareish, which means one hinge - one lid - one cell. Unless you want to backtrack and null your own previous admission there are 4 rows of hinges, I don't see how you can claim there's any other number of cells but 32.

I agree with you brown part of lids seems to be on the outside. For now. We have to rememeber the whole thing is still being furnished. It very likely is, like popeye said, a primer color. As for application of ram paint, i find it unlikely, as radar returns from the top surface aren't going to account for much, especially as there's BUNCH of other stuff on the ship to give radar returns, much bigger than those lids. It would just be too pricey for what it offers. Actually, I doubt there is much RAM used on the whole ship, for that matter. It would be like using a finger to try to seal a meter wide hole in the wall.

Well this pic at least supports the argument that the hathces are indeed square. So in the light of that yeas there could be 32 hathces in total...

...But...Every single series of pictures taken from the VLS is somewhat contradicting the previous ones. All pics are irritatingly showing only one minor part of the system, hinding more than revealing. Its like some one is deliberatly playing with our nerves. First images showed 16 hathces and everyone just assumed that the another 16 was hidden from the camera becouse the tubes where in backward V type of angle. Then there was a series of images which showed that there was now backward V shape after all and showed, what seemed of 32 hatches with different joint hinges than the first seriers of images. Now we see almoust square 16 hathces open...If there would have bee 32 of those hathces open, case closed. But there weren't. So thus I keep my sceptism even if I prooved out to be wrong in the end. At least I've looked and tried to figure out what the truth is.

Unlike someone elses I don't seddle for hazy pics with someone else saying thats the newest thing in town. We have had enough of incidences where even our most knowlidgable guys are joing from new chinese CIWS or seccond VLS becouse someone in some other chinese forum posted these pics and said so...without bothering to chekc the backround by themselves.

So i remain the stubbern old fart seeming to arguing against just for the arguings sake untill clear over-the-top images of the VLS without any covers is revealed.

We are only taking about data link part. Actual assigning of missile to director does not have to happen at missile launch -- it can happen on last command/target assignment.

Able to handle at least tens of missile in air was necessary for AEGIS because USSR was capable of massed missile launch of that magnitude.

I guess what you are thinking is the system should be able to guide missiles to attack as many targets as it can track. But that's not the reality, an Aiges can track hundreds of targets but can only attack maybe 20.

I looked at the pictures again, and it seemed both white and orange hatches are overlapping each other. Looks to me that orange hatches are rows 1 and 2, white hatches are 3 and 4.

The changes are relatively minor, the model does not show any significant differences in the number of Orekhs, for example. Model for the 051C did not deviate from the number of VLS launchers from the actual thing.

The number of missiles on the 054A isn't going to be any lower than that of the 054, which is around at least 24 for the HQ-7s.

They already called (PS'ed) her 530!

we don't know what it's called, it's just some Internet warriors guessing on the penant of the first launched ship.

Anyhow, I think this is simply the best looking VLS picture we've seen so far. From the AK-176 on the right side, it's clear that this is from 054A. Looks like the VLS is slightly slanted.
