They should work on improving the reliability of the aircraft. Instead they are still cramming more crap in. Block 4.
Which is likely to make the reliability even worse.

No one wants to make bug-fixes or pay off technical debt after all. It's far more sexy to showcase new features instead!
I never thought I'd be able to draw a parallel between fighter aircraft and software.

I think pre-B4 will be scavenged, retired early or passed down to "lesser/less friendly allies" by around 2035. It's not worthwhile, there's just too much hassle in maintaining them when they won't even have Block 4+ capabilities.

they work on improving reliability constantly. this is a little like saying people should give up sleep and just focus only on eating. the reality is to do both. what keeps shafting block 4 is they keep adding desired capabilities. The military is saying "we need this capability now, actually we needed it yesterday! grrrr!! " then they add 3 new things they want. the contractors say "ok but these new demands will add delays and take more time, and of course cost more money" and the military forgets what they just said and agrees that such tradeoffs are worth it the delays and extra cost.
They actually had months go by where no development happened on the software because the pentagon ran out of money in the funding allocation and the contractor doesn't work for free. then someone says "OMG can you believe this? more delays!"

(yes when you order something, and then do not pay for it, the order is not processed. )

The wishlist for the block 4 grew so much that even the GAO says they can no longer make heads or tails of what has happened and who is even at fault or even tell where it went off the rails.

as for mission readiness most people have no idea how it works anyway, and they're not really interested in learning either.

Nice, but it still take to much time to build...adding block 4 delays, unusable airframes are probably pilling up.

Production is a problem but adding up mishaps causing replacements, don't know when they will catch-up.

The teen-series was far worse.

In the end they are going to keep building them as quickly as they can. There are thousands of F-35s on order and people are willing to wait.

View attachment 129038I just like how clean and uncluttered the F135 is
You just did not see the other side of the engine, it is not less cluttered than other engines such as WS-10.

The non-cluttered angle of WS-10.
