I must admit, the Type 053H3 is a pretty design.

and there are still more Jiangwei's. This is 524, which was commissioned in 1999 compared to around 2005 for 527. It's interesting to see the sensors on these. At least the FCR for the main gun is a brand new one. Looks like the Rice Lamp radar for the 37 mm is also an upgraded one, although I'm not exactly sure on that.
That's what they're doing on the F-22P, which is a good reflection of what the Jiangwei series would be if they're allowed to be continued for the PLAN. For all intents and purposes, the F-22P should be the Jiangwei III.
However, the 730 is also much heavier than the 37mms, and its not possible to replace them on a one to one basis. So at best you can have two, not four, and you can't put one in the front.
A much more appropriate choice would be AK-630s. These would definitely fit on the places where the 37mm is.

I've noticed that on later MEKO corvettes and frigates, they're equipped with 20mm or 27mm remote controlled AC's, but not CIWS guns. The CIWS function has been replaced by RAM or other missiles. Earlier MEKO frigates had 20mm Phalanx or 25mm Sea Zenith CIWS.
The F-22P has updated CIWS gun, but lags behind in SAM. BUT if the purpose is to build a budget patrol frigate, then it fits the bill. The cost of a modern VL-SAM system today is probably higher than the F-22P frigate itself.

I think the 'updated' Type-730s are actually a cheaper version - they simply have two gun mounts sharing the same EO/Radar grouping. In theory the two guns could engage seperate targets, one using the EO device and the other the FCR, but that seems unlikely. Rather they have the advantage of two guns when engaging a single target (most likely scenario anyway) but are not as good as having two 'full' Type-730s when dealing with multiple targets.
Potentially the FM-90 (if it's not regular HQ-7) has a modest anti-missile capability similar to the Crotale-NG, but still a long way short of the latest generation of SR SAMs (RAM, SeaWolf mod, MICA VL etc).

it hasn't been launched, still under construction.
