Does anyone thinks a F-15SE program for the Air Force would have been a more cost saving and more multi mission oriented aircraft than say the F-35A (Note I didn't include the B or C models because the Navy and Marines have different needs)?o_O:)

It may have been cheaper...but it would not have been as effective.

The F-35A is going to be very multi-mission capable. It will do strike, it will do SEAD, it will do air defense and dominance, and it will do support. it is also going to be much more effective in sensor fusion and stealth than the F-15SE would ever have been.

And to get to the program to be able to develop and produce the lesser numbers of F-35B and C aircraft, you had to have the F-35A. Otherwise, you would have ended up with three separate aircraftr which was one of the things they were trying to avoid.

Forbin, do you, or anyone else, know what the current state of radar retrofitting is to the various F-15 variants?

The USAF C/D fleet was flying with the APG-63(v)1 mechanical for many years. Then, about 6 years back (?) 18 jets were upgraded with the (v)2 AESA. There is a (v)3 available now for some years. These should almost be state-of-the-art systems, will there be a fleet wide integration?

The israeli F-15I was, to my understanding, from the beginning fitted with the same APG-70 the -15E uses. They have a ground mapping / SAR capability. They have an AESA follow on as well, the APG-82(v)1, are there any retrofitts planned or ongoing?
I'm loosing track of all that.

First for Israel, to my knowledge actually no plans for a modernisation with AESA radars, make sense later for F-15i, for Eagles ?

About 10 years ago there are yes 18 F-15C/D based to Elmendorf ( one of two Sqns ) which had been modernised with APG-63(v)2 the first AESA radar operationnal this F-15 replaced by F-22 I do not know where they are now.

F-15 front line fleet modernisation have begin last year.

Now planned a part of F-15 C/D modernised with APG-63(v)3, only C in combat units, remains 240 thinking about half, 100, the 3 active combat Sqns with some.
Not necessary modernized all because budget ofc but mainly will be replaced by F-35A.

For F-15E all the 220 modernised with APG-82(v)1, yes, same range, performance as APG-63(v)3 only electronic a little different.

Here are the specs for F-15J operated by JASDF.

Only Admiral Greenert and his little crew, they are going to blow the F-35C acquisition if they aren't careful? just like the F-22, the C is the Navy bird, but they are being more than a little re-calcitrant in purchasing their bird, so NO, the F-15 is still a solid 4 gen at best, no way will it match up to the F-35A, anymore than the old F-18s, Typhoons, or Flankers??

Actualy USAF have 247 F-15C/D ( about* 107 active/ 140 ANG )
*249 in september 2014 but 64 Agr Sqn stand down since with 19 but 5 transfered to 65 Agr Sqn and 12 for ANG in fact only 2 in less.

Active have 3 combat Sqns with each 20/27, to kadena the two Sqns have yet APG-63(v)2/3 and at Lakenheath actualy half of Sqn have APG-63(v)3.
Only C variant modernised no D about 2/3 D by Sqn, OCU get more ofc.

For ANG 5 combat Sqns with 21/22 whose the 122 FS/Louisiana which have the new radar in more a OCU ( for active also ) with 32 F-25C/D.

*All tests, reserve aicrafts with active usually only front line aicrafts for ANG and AF Res.
Theoretically all USAF combat Sqns have before long time, 24 aicrafts.

F-15E, 220.
APG-82(v)1 in FRP now, 219 for the fleet, first Wing equiped to Mountain Home the 47 in 2 Sqns modernised for 2017.
To Seymour Johnson 4 combat Sqns : 94 and 55 at Lakenheath in two Sqns.
