continuation of the above post:
An American colleague who has worked in Denmark for several years at at the University of Copenhagen’s Center for Military Studies highlighted the growing cooperation among the Nordics and how that cooperation was reshaping their operational approaches to dealing with the Russian threat. The Swedes are introducing conscription, the Norwegians are boosting their defense spending and the Finns are working new relationships in the region.

As Gary Schaub Jr. put it during our meeting in Copenhagen:

“The Nordics are looking for practical ways ahead on credible deterrence with regard to the Russians. In this collaborative environment between equal—but small—powers, the suggestions of a Britain or US could smooth over the small barriers that might keep these otherwise pragmatic nations from doing what is in their own, and their region’s, common interests.

“There is a huge opportunity for the new administration to shape a thoughtful proactive NORDIC agenda as the Nordics themselves seek a more regional approach. And as F-35s and P-8s come into the region, there is an opportunity to leverage common assets to shape a more proactive and common effort towards regional defense and security. The administration should seize it.”

Patria Delivers a New Version of AMVXP to Slovakia

The Slovak and Finnish Ministries of Defence have agreed on a joint 8×8 infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) development programme, and Patria has been selected to deliver a new prototype version of AMVXP 8×8 chassis as part of the programme.

The selected industrial partners are Konstrukta Defence a.s. (prime contractor), Patria Land Systems Oy (vehicle) and EVPU a.s. (weapon system) by the Ministries of Defence of both countries.

The IFV development program includes a testing phase in Slovakia, and after the Slovakian test period the vehicle will be tested in Finland during this winter. Based on the results of this development program and successful tests, Slovakia plans to procure up to 81 IFVs as part of their military modernisation programme to be delivered in 2018-2024.

Patria AMVXP 8×8 vehicle includes NATO and EU proven solutions which fulfill customer’s requirements. “During this program, we will develop together with EVPU a new version of an amphibious AMVXP integrated with Turra weapon system fulfilling requirements of both Slovakian and Finnish Defence Forces. We have had continuous production in our manufacturing network since 2003, which creates capability to short lead time deliveries. We have also a solid and strong experience of technology transfer programs and localization of manufacturing of vehicles, which creates work and business opportunities in Slovakia, when the serial delivery program will take place”, confirms Mika Kari, President of Land business unit in Patria.

Replacing the Tornado, Germany plays on two fronts!

Germany has sent a price and availability request letter for the F-35 to the US government. Germany received a classified briefing on the F-35 last July. And yet the country wants to prepare after Eurofighter with France for a future European fighter.

Speaking at the same conference, Air Force Lieutenant-General Karl Muellner's Chief of Staff said the Luftwaffe was seeking to replace its fleet of type "Tornado". Since these planes are expected to be phased out in 2030, a successor is expected to be in service by 2025. "We are considering several candidates, with the F-35's ability as a benchmark.
Other contenders:

But the German Air Force is also considering other competitors, such as the Boeing F-15 "Strike Eagle", the F / A-18 "Super Hornet", and is also thinking about a new version of the Eurofighter Tranche 4.

The head of the Luftwaffe said the new acquisition "must be able to survive in a disputed environment thanks to low radar and infrared signature observability, low emissions and stand-off capability with its sensors and weapons and be able to fuse the sensors.

In other words, the "stealth" side combined with the power of data fusion, represent the key elements of German needs. At this level, only the F-35 could be suitable and delivered on time.
Europe must react:

Once again, the F-35's combat platform and its electronic power seem to be of interest to European air forces at the highest level, and so on, if the plane is immature. The launch of a high-capacity electronic version like the future Rafale F4 and the Gripen E MS22 and why not a Typhoon T4 have now become a priority for European aircraft manufacturers.

Germany is visibly upset by the current slowdown in partner commitments on the development of the Eurofighter and could therefore momentarily turn towards the F-35. This solution will not prevent him from participating in a future European plane, but later. Finally, provided that the costs of the F-35 do not end, by swallowing the entire European financial means!

stockpile to the government of Georgia in Eastern Europe.

The State Department notified Congress it has approved a potential $75 million sale of more than 410 Javelin missiles made by Lockheed Martin Corp., the world’s largest defense contractor, and Raytheon Co., the world’s biggest missile-maker, according to a statement Monday from the Pentagon’s Defense Security Cooperation Agency.

The sale calls for 410 Javelin missiles; 72 Javelin command launch units with spares; 10 basic skills trainers; and up to 70 simulated rounds; as well as U.S. government and contractor technical assistance, transportation and other related elements of logistics and program support.

“This proposed sale will contribute to the foreign policy and national security of the United States by improving the security of Georgia,” the announcement states. “The Javelin system will provide Georgia with increased capacity to meet its national defense requirements. Georgia will have no difficulty absorbing this system into its armed forces.”

It goes on to say, “These missiles are being provided from U.S. Army stock and the CLUs will be obtained from on-hand Special Defense Acquisition Fund (SDAF)-purchased stock.”

The Javelin is a portable, anti-tank system developed for the U.S. Army and

equipment guide. Highly lethal against tanks with conventional and reactive armor, the weapon provides a medium anti-tank capability to infantry soldiers, scouts and combat engineers, the guide states.

The Army requested funding to buy another 794 of the shoulder-fired munition in fiscal 2018, though the service identified a shortfall of 373, so lawmakers in Congress agreed to purchase a total of 1,167 for the fiscal year that began Oct. 1, according to information released by the House Armed Services Committee.

with the Javelin, as well as a 30mm cannon.

After the Soviet Union broke up in 1991, the U.S. recognized the independence of Georgia, according to a 2014 report from the Congressional Research Service. Georgia went to war with Russia for five days in 2008 over the Russian-backed states South Ossetia and Abkhazia, where thousands of Russian troops remain, according to CRS.
