Except Russia has no such plans. Why do you think they invest so much on strategic weapons?
The notion Russia is the Soviet Union is retarded.

And don't expect Russia in a conflict against NATO to act with kid gloves like in Ukraine.

The shared border piece is irrelevant. You don't want your enemy on your borders. So, you fight to keep them away.

At the same time, building weapon systems employs your people and sends money to your companies. So, this is not like Germany is giving hundreds of billions away and getting nothing. In reality it is sending federal money right into its own economy.
All those weapons will just sit in warehouses and generate no economic value.

Dont mind that talk. Some people just rely so much on their bias that they dont even try and be objective.
Its like saying why did china get involved in the Korean war , Vietnam war when China was so poor some of her people were even starving, so they should have focused on their own economy and people livelihood. See how stupid that sounds?
In fact using their logic, why was China so against US stationing her missile defence THAAD system in S.Korea? To the point that China imposed measures included boycotts of South Korean goods and services, a ban on tourism and korean pop culture and some pressure on some South Korean companies in china. That was uncalled for, afterall S.Korea doesn't have anything to do with China right? Lol.

Talk about bias. Sure Germany can increase they defense spending, but can they afford it?

How's their industry doing right now? Are they coming over all that money in their own military industry or just buy American weapons? Cause that will provide minimal funds into their own industries or employ their own people

Also don't compare China's response to Korea with Germany response to Russia.

Last I saw on the map, Germany is not bordering Russia like Korea is to china. Russia never asked Ukraine to put in specific anti air and first strike and radar capabilities along Germany's border. Conflating the two is purposefully disingenuous. So before you talk of others bias, better check your own.

Do you even know why China was pissed at South Korea for THAAD deployment? The threat to China is not the missiles, it is the radar system.

China had a tiny number of ICBM at the time. If the US launched a surprise first strike on China’s strategic assets, there may be only a tiny number of ICBM survived. The THAAD radar in South Korea can provide early warning and flight path information which can greatly increase the interception rate for the NMD system in Alaska. In another word, the THAAD system in Korea has the potential to enable the US to defang China with minimal or no cost.

Comparing THAAD’s deployment in South Korea with Germany rearmament is ignorance at best and disingenuous at worst.

Germany has been in recession at least since 2022.

They cut off ties with their main energy and raw materials supplier, not to mention one of their major finished goods importers. I think Russia was either #2 or #3 main export market. It might have felt good cutting Airbus sales to Russia, but they won't be laughing a decade from now when Russia becomes a major aviation exporter again.
Plus that is how they lost #1 car exporter position to China as well.
