I read that article and the author is totally clueless!

One she only put in women of the 20th century which is pretty misleading about women heroines as being solely a modern phenominum. Two the author didn't include Indeara Gondhi first woman PM of India that crushed the Sihks went to war with Pakistan. Hell what about adding Mao's fourth wife she was a member of the Gang of Four they did quite a bang up job during the Cultural Revalution. And the way she portrayed empress dowager Cixi as role model is such crap because under her criteria Cixi is strong great women then Mao should be consider a great leader and shouldn't be diminshed for a couple of poor policy choices!

WE SHOULD ALL LEAVE COMMENTS AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS ARTICLE TO DEMINSTRATE HOW POORLY RESEACHED THIS ARTICLE IS!

A better choice would've Wu Zetian, otherwise i'd think this was some kind of nationalist thing, the woman being Indian and all.

I agree wtih Wu Zeitian, I don't know about the indian thing you are saying thou.

But yes, Wu is so much better a choice, I would rate her as one of the best monarchs in China. Cixi... is a totally different story; but I guess every coin have 2 face, she was the last empess and we have built our modern history on the corrupt nature of Qing dynasty; it is prolly true that she is not as bad as she is.

That's why there's a big difference between a journalist (like that pathetic CNN reporter) and a historian. Historians has to be extremely prudent on their research have a much stringent peer review than say a journalist. A journalist is for entertainment for the feeble minds, while a historian is all about facts and accuracy (more science than art).

This just shows cnn's lack of understanding to Chinese history. Cixi was where she is percisely because she has a son Though, i do give here credit for two things
1. for.hold together the country for as long as she did, she came to power in 1856, and it is under her rule that the tide against taiping rebillion is turned. And afterward, powerful local cliques was suppressed and imperial supremacy was upheld. Had thing gone wrong, it could easily be a warloard era.

2. started the transitional era in 1901, the so call new policy era. Perhaps too little too late, but one could argue more modernization was done in that era than all years between xinhai revolution and the najing decade.

however her problem is that she placed her personal interest before that of the empire.

as for other women in chinese history, plenty are cuts above cixi:
wu zetian, whatever he tactics is. her ruler is still the height of tang dynasty.
qin liangyu, highest woman general ever in china. had she not died, and her fifdom survived. She will be in the lengue as koxinga.
empress lu, same reputation as cixi in chinese history. But she did strike peace with xiongnu and saved her husband's life.
