CV-18 Fujian/003 CATOBAR carrier thread

For my understanding, I think it can be an confirmation that if the next CV after the current 003 is identical to be around the same tonnage, CATOBAR and conventional powered.

1. If it is named 004, then the number is just sequence.
2. If it is named 003, then it is type number.

It may be named 004, but it can also be of Type 003 simultaneously, with 003 being the first ship of the class. This is the USN convention anyway.

so next one would be CV-18 or 003 and 004 for CV-19

then CVN-20 and CVN-21 would be 005 + 006

By "named 004" I meant an evidence that we can see in some official capacity like 002. However what would be the evidence for "also be of type 003"? Without evidence we would end up like "type 001A" that was just a outsider's guess.

I'm following your suggestion of possible future events, and make an argument for a reasonable explanation. So no point to elevate this into asking me to provide evidence how the future carriers will be named. Notice I did not use any definitive language.

In any case, this whole naming convention conjecture at this point appears to be a rather meaningless exercise. I'll withdraw myself from the discussion.

Please don't take me the wrong way. I went after your argument seriously without the intention to corner you in any way. I am a person who would only use what can be confirmed and argue against speculations that (IMO) lack convincing reasons. Maybe that is too much some times.

The problem is, that these numbers 003, 004, 005 and so on are not used in a strict pattern. Some classify them as Type of the vessel numbers, whereas others rate them as carrier numbers. I must admit I was indeed surprised the Shandong is rated 002 since IMO the changes are not that dramatic to justify an own new class, but anyway. As such it will be interesting to see, if the next carrier will be yet another Type 003 class vessel or even a Type 004 class?

I expect at least one more Type 003 vessel.

I believe they are the sequential and scientific numbering of China's carriers. My two bobs worth is after 003, there will be 004, 005 and so on as I previously suggeted. Deino want a bet on it, mate!
