The link about the news that Dalian is going to build another AC very soon. The Blog of CSIC indicating that it's ready for the next one.
fzgfzy release a series of photos allegedly showing current 003 progress at JNCX, and mentioned right now it's in sub assembly production, and we are a long way from seeing any major modules that can be recognized as carrier part. Mainly due to changes in design (I'd imagine that's related to switching to EM Launch) and subsequent upgrades in the new JNCX facility.
From the look of it the pictures shows JNCX's brand new carrier fabrication building which became operational last November.
Care to explain why?
I'm no expert in shipbuilding, but I read somewhere the other day that the JN shipyard will construct the 003 differently compared to the 002 at DL.
In DL, what they did for the 002 was lay the keel and built up the hull little by little, the traditional way. It wasn't until most of the lower hull was complete that they began to use large modules in construction. This allowed for a linear and rapid pace of construction from steel cutting to completion.
In comparison, the JN shipyard will use a relatively modern technique. First, basic parts and small modules will be laid down and assembled, followed by medium-sized modules, and finally, the massive ones that you see in the construction of large civilian vessels where entire pre-fabricated segments are moved into place.
My understanding is that, compared to DL, initial pace of construction of the 003 will be slower as we're only just seeing the little basic pieces being prepared, while the major modules are not yet ready. Once we see the first big hulks of steel appear sometime in 2019, that's when we know that everything is coming together.
These are unrealistic numbers. As an example: CVN 78 Ford was composed of 162 so-called "superlifts", the heaviest weighed 1050 tons (which is the maximum load capacity of the huge gantry crane).if the 80,000 ton mark is the final weight of 003 some of these lower blocks will weight over 10,000 tons that's like lifting a entire Type 055
