So, no shooting, no threat? That's the reason why US carriers sail from San Diego or Norfolk without escorts, because they are not under some particular threat?
They were using destroyers for what more important? Fisheries patrol? Maybe even making rounds 50 nm from shore and back?

Maybe it is because of the lighting but it does look like it conducted a lot of flight operations judging by the colour.

@Deino knows people who have access to better quality images. Maybe he could take a look. But he is definitely not allowed to further distribute pictures of better quality, maybe not even own them.

Wow. I didn't realize we need a label to indicate the pennant number. They might as well label the ropes, tugs and the pier itself.
