These carriers have similar or better capability than the QE class carriers the UK has. These are the largest non-nuclear carriers in service anywhere in the world. At least they will be until Type 003 comes out.
Well carrier depends on the aircraft it carries... QE carries a bit more aircraft and it's carrying a full compliment of F-35's. How many fixed wing aircraft is the Shandong carrying?

There is a significant gap between the performance of the f-35b and ordinary fixed-wing carrier-based aircraft.
When the f-35c carries a 2.5-ton payload, the range is about 2200KM.
In comparison, the f-35b has a range of about 1,667KM when carrying a 1.5-ton payload.

But how about comparing the F-35B to J-15? It's not really much of a competition other than the J-15 with more of a payload. Speaking of which I know there were rumors that J-15 had limited payload taking off of the ski ramps if the carrier was not traveling at 24knts. With the new engines I imagine this issue was sort of remedied?

Two more magazine scans of CV-17 Shandong.

WOW, the J-15 takes off and land nearly 50 times a day.

Gerald Ford can do ~200 sorties per day with ~90 aircrafts

Shandong does ~50 sorties per day with ~44 aircrafts.

Seems that Shandong can still improve its sorties rate?

We can't really determine exactly how many planes were on Shandon during that time.

In fact, I'm not even completely sure that it can carry 44? Not exactly sure about max planes it can carry (likely also depends on number of helicopters it carries as well)

Ford doing 200 sorties a day is a bit of a stretch.

And Shandong definitely do not have 44 aircraft onboard for this deployment.

People are reading too much into the Shandong sortie figure. Yes, it is higher than the last one observed by the JMSDF, but I have a bridge to sell you if you think the sortie rate demonstrated in these open ocean exercises represent the maximum sortie rates they have demonstrated/mastered at those given periods of time.
