I'm not biologist, but I am guessing you prob have to be a mammal to contract covid. I just find some of the things that China still do are not usefully and just adds overall doubt. IE, they still do the mass cleaning/fogging of streets
But you don't even need to be alive (not mentioning being a mammal or not) to have the virus on you. The Covid virus has varying lasting time on different surfaces. It is well-known that
cold-chain related products are perfect for the virus to stay on. There has been no shortages of cases and even localized outbreaks as a result of viruses on
cold-chain related products.
There isn't even a shortage of cases/localized outbreaks as a result of viruses on
non cold-chain related products shipped from overseas. So all packages shipped from outside of China are disinfected. If you keep a tap on Chinese news in China, testing seafood is not even controversial. This is nothing new, it even started from as early as mid-2020.
