Yup exactly COMAC is close getting the certification. So never trust western press when they broke up the news of delay in testing last year. A lot of people in the forum get discourage ever seeing it flying in commercial airlines! Patient is a virtue! Here is the news . Western duopoly of Boeing and Airbus is coming to an end

SHANGHAI (Reuters) - China's homegrown C919 narrow-body jet, designed to challenge the Airbus-Boeing duopoly, is nearing certification as its test planes completed all of the test flight tasks, the company said on Saturday.

The state-owned manufacturer Commercial Aircraft Corp of China (COMAC) said on its official social media account that the six test planes have finished the testing tasks as the programme enters the final stage of receiving a certificate from the Civil Aviation Administration of China which is required for commercial operations.

That would mark a milestone in China's ambitions to climb up the manufacturing supply chain. China's COMAC is now effectively the third option in the market for planes with more than 100 seats, after Boeing and Airbus struck deals to take over production of rival planes made by Embraer and Bombardier.

Long overdue. China has come a long way from Yun-10 to C919. The biggest difference is that all the pieces are already in place for C919 to succeed, first among them is political will. From J-10 to J-20 to Y-20, China is already an aviation giant after US and EU. It is just a matter of time to gain experiences and iron out wrinkles. Certification is not an immediate worry. The China market alone can support C919 for at least 20 years. I only look forward to a day when COMAC produces more C919 than Airbus Tianjing on yearly basis.

Any indication of how many they would able to build per year?
Using ARJ 21 experience a as a guide, It will be slow at first It take COMAC 2 or 3 years from initial production to 30 per year than couple more years until it reached 50/ year production. I guess experience manpower is the bottle neck. You first need to train worker as for China this is green field and with booming defense related aerospace competition is stiff

second largest military aviation complex after USA. extensive assembly lines of Airbus in Tianjin city. and Boeing 737 assembly line in Zhoushan as well. COMAC second assembly line will also open in Nanjing city for ARJ-21 and C919. CR929 assembling process begun too. now you can imagine the the split of skilled workforce. but thankfully China produce 10 plus millions STEM graduates every year. China have 170 million high end skilled labor force. initially COMAC faced hurdles but now industry booming so it is easy to find trained force.

I hope people don't have too high expectation on C919's deliveries on the first few years starting from 2023. Attached is deliveries of A300 from Airbus from 1974 to 2007 for reference purpose only.

Based on China's passenger airliner needs, I expect that after 5 or 6 years (2028/2029 onwards), COMAC's production rate should be better than A300. Also China's own domestic engines should be ready around 2030.

China's home-grown C919 jet nears certification as test planes complete tasks

SHANGHAI (REUTERS) - China's homegrown C919 narrow-body jet, designed to challenge the Airbus-Boeing duopoly, is nearing certification as its test planes completed all of the test flight tasks, the company said on Saturday (July 24).

Designed to compete directly with the Boeing 737 MAX and Airbus 320 NEO families, the C919 aircraft programme has faced a range of technical issues and tougher US export controls, after being launched in 2008, Reuters has reported.

The launch customer is the state-owned China Eastern Airlines, which has placed an order for five C919 jets in March last year.

Changjiang Daily, a newspaper owned by the local government of Wuhan, said in a report on July 8 the airline is scheduled to take the first delivery in August.

Assembled in China, the plane relies heavily on Western components, including engines and avionics.
