I see that clemenceau is going to be scrapped. Is this the ship Frence tried to sell to China awhile ago? If so, does anyone know the reason why wasn't the ship sold to China? :china:

I don't believe China was interested. China seems more interested in the larger, longer ranged Russian type carriers. Lots more space, alot more ordnance, and you can operate Flanker type aircraft from them. Since China has experience with Flanker aircraft it makes sense. That's just my guess.

What always puzzled me was how France intended to slip a CARRIER past the embargo. So the two nations had sonething up their sleeve...

One interesting part of the proposed clemenceau was that france would GIVE the carrier to china(for free, that is). Most of the money would be aquired in renovations, upgrades, and munitions purchaces that the french were sure the PLAN would purchase.

Did the embargo forbid TRANSFER of warships? perhaps it just said "Sale", so the french found a loophole. Sending parts and technicians to help maitain the ship isnt exactly "military" either.

Wow..That bow of that ship looks so small. That catapult lookls like the same as we had on the USS Hancock CV-19(Essex class)...But the French did an excellent job of keeping that oiled fired levithan in service..Amazing

What Brazils plans for any future CV operations?

Thanks Miggy..:)

But does anybody have any idea what Barzils plans are for a CV?

I always liked the Crusader even though crashed in front of me on the USS Hancock in '75:( ..No injuries or deaths. The nose gear collasped and the plane came to a sudden stop. The starboard(right)missile rack came flying off with an inert Sidewinder attatched. Missed me by about 40 feet or so...

F-8 Crusader..Photo recon variant. Notice the camera window. No missile rack.
