Recent reports indicate that Varsapura, a new game led by Mihoyo founder Cai Haoyu, is set for release. The title translates to “City of Rain.” Published by Mihoyo's Singapore-based subsidiary Cognosphere Pte., Ltd., the game's core gameplay mechanics and scale remain undisclosed. However, its narrative is likely set in a highly advanced futuristic Singapore. The game's central innovation lies in integrating generative AI into its gameplay, with certain features potentially resembling elements from Cai Haoyu's Anuttacon studio.

It's important to note that this game may target the global market, with its development team based overseas. Operating it within China would require going through the import game approval process. So, for a game where the CEO is a major shareholder of a renowned Chinese game company, and the majority of employees are Chinese, but the development and operational bases are established abroad—does it truly qualify as a Chinese company?

No blood, no skeleton, no nude
vs
While meeting the progressive expectations of the "woke" demographic, a game must simultaneously deliver stellar company financials, ideally achieving record-high monthly active users every month to drive at least a 30% growth in the company's stock price
Except skeletons are allowed, you have them in black myth wukong and where winds meet (there's even a full skeleton on display during a side quest) and even a side quest where the screen is filled with blood.

Yeah the blood thing seems situational for me. On one hand, they may be toned down for mass-published games like Delta Force or Arena Breakout. It seems different in other types of games.

Mihoyo's new title Varsapura has released a 31-minute gameplay demo, confirmed as the studio's next flagship project. Please note the game remains in early development, with ongoing recruitment efforts both domestically and internationally.
The game features a realistic open-world map and characters styled after Mihoyo's signature cartoon idols.Similar in gameplay and style to Control, the protagonist serves as a shadow cop eliminating monsters behind the scenes in the city. You can control and switch between multiple characters to unleash skills and attack enemy monsters. Set in Singapore, the title “Varsapura” represents the city-state within the game. Players will encounter nearly exact replicas of Singapore's streets and urban architecture, with colonial British influences preserved within the buildings.
Previous trailers heavily hinted that Varsapura would incorporate AI-driven gameplay mechanics—meaning certain dialogues and narrative paths might be processed through AI models to generate unique story outcomes. However, this demo offered no visible demonstration of such AI-related technology.
Personally, I found this demo underwhelming. The combat, narrative, presentation, and character modeling feel mediocre for a next-gen flagship title. Ironically, the most impressive aspect—Singapore's city design—is also my greatest disappointment. I'd hoped China's next-gen games would showcase more local cultural elements, yet this title so perfectly captures the legacy of the British Empire that it leaves me sighing. Adding to the bittersweet feeling is the fact that this project was originally named PJshanghai. After its cancellation, Cai Haoyu moved to the Singapore branch to launch a new project. Multiple teams repurposed leftover assets, with some being adapted for this Singapore-based game.

Zoopunk - Official Extended Gameplay Trailer

Take a look at this Zoopunk extended gameplay trailer for the upcoming action RPG prequel to F.I.S.T.: Forged in Shadow Torch. Set decades before the events of F.I.S.T., ZOOPUNK expands the beloved Animal Punk universe, chronicling the turbulent origins of Torch City, an animal metropolis on the brink of revolution. Zoopunk will be available on PC (Steam and Epic Games Store), Xbox Series X/S, Xbox on PC, PlayStation 5 (PS5), and PlayStation 5 Pro (PS5 Pro).

In Zoopunk, players witness the dawn of the First Torch War, when the discovery of the fire seed energy sparks an age of rapid technological progress and catastrophic conflict. As the energy spirals out of control, it awakens mechanical debris into self-aware, unstoppable war machines. Initially created to harness energy, these machines soon adopt violence from their creators, turning against the animals and establishing a mechanical empire bent on domination. With the city in chaos, animals from rival factions must unite to resist this overwhelming force.
