Helldivers, which is very popular in China, is at a new story arc where Shanghai is one of the cities being attacked by aliens. Chinese players are surging to defend digital Shanghai. The coordinated effort and the defense's resilience has spawned a whole bunch of memes—historical memes like "Shanghai fell in 1937, it will never fall again!" or "What is your mission in Shanghai?!" a la Battlefield 4.

Shanghai local news actually did a piece on this, it seems like Chinese and American Helldivers successfully protected Cyber Shanghai in the end

A lot of the audience, including critics, didn’t even get that it was a parody at the time of release. Let that sink in…
Didn't the same thing happen with Robocop? I was too young to understand that both movies were parodies, but didn't go around screaming "fascist propaganda". I just thought both movies were fun as hell. Probably the Karens are complaining like always.

I guess some people just have bad media literacy. You just have to deal with that.

Managed Democracy!

Another recent excellent release is ID Software's Doom: The Dark Ages! A technical masterpiece with excellent gameplay based around a slower moving Doom Slayer armed with a shield for counters and a variety of melee weapons. Obviously you have a great selection of firearms to choose from; classics like the Super Shotgun return but you also have new great weapons like the Chainshot (a giant ball attached to a chain that you can launch at enemies).

I honestly feel like with some changes, they could have called this game Quake. Some of the later levels really have a Quake vibe. Given that this is the end of the current Doom trilogy, I hope the next series they do is Quake.

Personally, this felt like the weakest of the trilogy. Didn't agree with some of the changes to the gameplay.

On the other hand, there are rumors of a Quake remake in the same vein as the DOOM 2016 reboot. Supposed to be made by the Wolfenstein guys. They have just finished Indiana Jones and are finishing up the DLC for it, but have come out and said they have multiple titles in the works right now. I desperately need Wolfenstein 3. I hope they moved away from the second game's style.

This is the game where you have to provide two primary sources to get them to fix anything. Sometimes it does feel like they're baiting for leaks, especially with he way the mods arbitrarily reject sources they deem as not official, as if anyone could get access to official sources for modern vehicles.
Speaking of baiting for leaks...they're adding the type 625e next update and they just rejected implementing AHEAD ammunition despite it being shown on video because they want information about how the ammunition is programmed...

Yea, they already have AHEAD ammunition in game albeit it's implemented inaccurately (still much better than when it was first in the game though), so why do they need to know how it works IRL LOL.
