I thought they'd move in this direction to clear urban centers of light resistance after seeing the results in Ukraine, and they are!

Did anyone post this image before?

6.2t MTOW, 2t external payload and 300kg internal payload

over 10,000km range
over 40 hour endurance

Now, this is a proper MALE UAV that is actually worthwhile for the PLA to procure in large numbers.

Previously, GJ-1/2 (WL-1/2) were all somewhat average. But now this thing really has the true potential to be a proper big boy MALE UAV with multirole applications from standard long endurance ISR and hunter killer, to strike, to EW, to BACN, to ASW.... all enabled by its large size and payload of course.

What plaaf would really benefit from is a dedicated recon uav. Very high altitude one, very stealthy, long loiter time and ability to use very large cameras for significant stand off recon capability. Basically everything that's usually attributed to the us rq180.

In light of the Ukrainian war, I feel China needs a lot of UAVs that are far cheaper than the missiles needed to kill them. More variety of suicide drones as well.

Both of those are in such varying different categories, and while I agree with both of them, they're really complementary to each other (along with say, a proper multirole larger sized conventional MALE UAV like WL-3, as well as higher end stealthy UCAVs and loyal wingmen etc).

At this point, I find that such UAVs are so different from each other in role that categorizing them all as "UAVs" spoken in one breath as one another can almost be on the verge of causing confusion.

yeah its like calling everything that flies "aircraft" rather than cruise missiles, fighters, transports, etc.
