I think PLA top brass has start to change their mentality....

They know the need for rapid modernization and the fact budget is not a problem.

The fact they going into CV shows they are willing to spend and not the old practice of being frigid.

While the L-15 is a very advanced trainer, and would make a fine addition to the PLAAF's inventory, I think not enough credit is being given to the JL-9 which is a simple, light weight, and altogether, sound design. USAF pilots who go on to fly F-22s (when they get back in the air that is!) still train on the T-38 (for now at least). Fourth (third in Chinese) generation fighters will be in the PLAAf's inventory for quiet sometime and an aircraft like the JL-9 will do a good job training those pilots. I wouldn't be surprised if both trainers find their place,

I seriously doubt that. Lack of lerx, FBW will make them hardly any worthy for training pilots for J-10 and J-11B.

I think that would be a fine opportunity esp. with the sales already in Venezuela and Bolivia.

Additionally there are many countries, which will need to replace their older trainers as well as light-attack types (like A-37) and as such a combination of K-8, L-15 trainers and maybe even later duel-role type.

Lerx and a double delta wing effectively create the same effect. FBW is important though especially for a training aircraft where safety is paramount
