Re: JL-15 and other trainers

首见山鹰的正式编号--歼教九!而非教练九或者高教九。。。
中航工业试飞院上半年在试飞风险科目多、试飞技术新、组织体系复杂、保障难度大、安全压力大的形势下,科研工作主动座位、创新超越、多项工作稳步推进,各项重点科研试飞任务纷纷按节电、高质量的完成。歼教九飞机等重点型号基本完成了设计定型试飞科目;完成2008级空军试飞员专业化培训开班及教学飞行;歼十飞机三名试飞员完成尾旋训练;院庆飞行训练取得圆满成功;
ARJ21飞机101架机正是转场中航工业试飞院开始全面进入适航审定验证试飞阶段,ARJ21-700飞机102架圆满实施了首飞任务。

JL-9 is now JJ-9. That's its official PLA name It says that in the first half of this year, JJ-9 completed its design certification flight test programs. Also completed class of 2008 PLAAF pilot training

What exactly is the significance of differing JL-9 to JJ-9?

Also in other news, the L-15 was at this year's MAKS airshow in Russia

The advanced jet trainer Falcon L-15 independently developed by China’s Jiangxi Hongdu Aviation Industry Group appeared in the Russian International Air Show on August 18. This air show attracted 711 astronautic and aeronautic enterprises from 34 countries to participate in. Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin inaugurated the air show.

It is introduced that the advanced jet trainer Falcon L-15 has a fine pneumatic platform with a three-axle and four-redundancy fly-by-wire flight control system. It can reappear the flight performance of combat aircraft at a low cost, has the flight performance and maneuver similar to the new generation of fighters and can meet the training demand of the pilots.

It is also learned that the trainer Falcon L15 will attend the International Air Show in Dubai, United Arab Emirates and make flying display in the coming November to display once again the fine performance to the overseas clients and actively expand the international market.

Re: JL-15 and other trainers

LA PAZ, Aug 31, 2009 (AFP) - Bolivia is looking to buy six
combat aircraft from China or Brazil after the United States blocked
the sale of Czech planes, Defense Minister Walker San Miguel said in
remarks published Monday.
"They could be Chinese or they could be Super Tucanos from
Brazil, one or the other," San Miguel was quoted as saying an in
interview with the newspaper La Razon.
He provided few details on the status of negotiations with
either country.
The government of leftist President Evo Morales last year tried
to buy six L-159 ALCA two-seater light combat aircraft, made with US
components, from the Czech Republic for 58 million dollars.
But Morales disclosed last month that the sale had been vetoed
by Washington.
Bolivia also has been negotiating to buy arms and equipment from
Russia worth some 100 million dollars, including an Antonov aircraft
for presidential travel outside the country.

my guess from this article is that Bolivia is evaluating the possibility of getting K-8s.

Indeed, Bolivia isn't looking for a trainer, they're looking for a light, subsonic attack aircraft and an improved K-8/JL-8 would certain be a serious contender, especially politically as Bolivia needs all the friends it can get internationally. The Super Tucano though has been doing very well internationally though it terms of sales, but then again the Tucano also has American parts IIRC. China has a great shot at this, all they have to do is show that they can modify the JL-8 into a dedicated combat aircraft.

On a different note, its sad to hear that the L-159 deal didn't go through. The L-159 is a fantastically useful plane, but everything always seems to go wrong for it when it comes to international sales. This is probably one of the last nails in the coffin for it.

I thought they are trying to buy J-7?

Re: JL-15 and other trainers

K-8 is already used in the light attacking role by some of the countries that purchased it.

As for J-7, they've stopped production of it.

It is, but not nearly on the same level of capability as the L-159. Notice the use of the term 'combat aircraft', which can either be a vague generalisation or a more specific definition. Generally though usage of such a term would certainly imply a limited air defence role as well given the existing 'usage' of the term (Aero L-159, Alenia Aermacchi M-331, KAI A-50 etc.), something beyond light attack capabilities that the current K-8/JL-8.

Don't know of any attempt by Hongdu to turn K-8 into an attack plane.

if k-8 is not it, the only other choice is JF-17, which would be more expensive than what they would pay for L-159.

There's the FTC-2000/JL-9/JJ-9 but really this too, doesn't really fit the role Bolivia is looking for either, Bolivia isn't looking for a supersonic aircraft (even though Bolivia currently has no dedicated air-defence aircraft). The K-8/JL-8 is a fairly robust aircraft though. As far as I see it, what is needed is a more robust engine and a proper electronics/radar suite. Afterall, the L-159 is simply an upgraded L-59.
