Propaply lot more would tell us some sort of change to compare the + fin missiles size to the x fin one...

I would think that the X configuration of the missile represents the final design, while having the + configuration was a finalist. Having the X lowers the RCS profile somewhat at the side.

The model in the airshow was no doubt a mistake and after it was hastily made, it was discovered later it was too late to correct it for the show it first came out. But later, they never bothered to correct it with a proper model since it's only for display (who would bother noticing?) and you will probably see this same erroneous model again and again in future shows.

I suspect it's the other way around, though only because the bullet fairings on the "X" version seem less sophisticated than the hinge/fold/retract mechanism on the "+" version. But that's just a gut feeling.

Have you heard about "Corner reflector"? The "X" is as bad as the "+" because the surfaces are still angled at 90degrees to eachother, the effect is not unlike this not so stealthy contraption:
