Subtract the word "media" from this sentence, and read this sentence again.
Bro you replied to my post from almost 4 months ago, I was so confused...

But yes, made in China is already making great in-roads into improving the imagery of China, more and more I've seen MSM complain less about poor quality products and instead shifting goal posts to muh stolen designs. I can confidently say that I prefer a lot of Chinese branded home appliances then western ones and very soon, cars too.

Mandarin is a fairly difficult language to learn if you didn't start from a young age, since the grammer/sentence structure is different from Latin derived languages, to communicate fluently in Mandarin would require years of practice.
The grammar and sentence structure is SVO, same as English. There's no gender, cases, plurals, etc. Mandarin phonemes are also limited, there's fewer sounds than English.

The real barrier is mental. Mandarin can be picked up by barbarian warlords.

Its a bit exaggeration to call it total garbage and a bit much to say no Chinese watches it. Obviously there are genres that suit some people more than others. My main complaint with most shows is that they are too long and draggy. Also cultural and censor rules could be limiting the depth and breath of shows.

My understanding is that a good amount of mainland production 15-20 years ago were devouted to CPC themes or anti-imperialist type stories. From that perspective, mainland production has become more progressive and better.

In respect to soft power, there seems to be a significant and growing number of non-mainland fans if you look at view counts and read the video comments on youtube for example

I'll say english is a bit more forgiving than Mandarin is, once you know all 26 characters in english, spelling can simply be generlised via pronuuociation barring a few weird cases, if you know the length of the word and begining and end of each word, you can work out it's meaning even if it is missqelt, you can see a few deliberately misspellings in what I've typed and it's still perfectly legible.

Chinese writing on the other hand is heavily dependent on memorising characters, with something like 3000 seperate characters for basic every day use. Granted Chinese characters are also similar to english in that each character is based on a combination of smaller base set of characters, but it is not as easily combined as English is.

Nothing insurmountable, of course. Seeing how easily Chinese people learn english it's not like the inverse can't be true. Just need to start young.
