Changxing island (88.5 km2) is roughly 50% bigger than Manhattan island, (59.1 km2), so actually quite big
The biggest island, Chongming Island is huge, about 1,267 km2 or roughly 22x Manhattan island
Its for use by the Chinese government. Its currently running around the South China Seas collecting samples.
Note that it uses azimuth propulsion, which is another type of electric propulsion. This one is an example. This lets you maneuver in all sorts of ways at slow speeds. I expect many Chinese oceanographic surveillance vessels of recent vintage to be equipped with them.
Never mind the aircraft carrier, the LNG carrier coming up besides it is a beaut.
