Jensen really does not want to be locked out of the Chinese market, I guess it makes sense as unlike American elites confident in their innate superiority, he realizes deep down as a person of Chinese heritage, that if he can do something, then other Chinese can do it too, so it’s only a matter of time before China has its own TSMC and NVIDIA.
With how much the global electronics, computing, and now AI industry runs through China, pulling NVIDIA and its CUDA ecosystem out of China would be equivalent to dismantling its global monopoly; so he’s willing to skirt even US sanctions to get his products into China.
More than that, Jensen does not want NVIDIA to end up like Intel where successive CEOs failed to capitalize on emerging opportunities. That led to Intel losing its way. And, eventually, Intel fell behind the competition.
There is also the fact that Microsoft, Meta and Google are all building their in-house AI chips and AMD is turning up the heat, all of which is keeping NVIDIA on its toes. It is important for NVIDIA to find alternative markets, or sources of revenue, outside of its primary market in the US.
But the real nightmare scenario for Jensen is if one of his competitors, including Huawei, comes up with a solid product line and it takes off in China. That would be NVIDIA's Intel moment.
