Still significantly down compared the past years.
And technically it didn't even change from their earlier China forecast for 2025. It's just that their bookings and forecast for the rest of the world dropped, while China remained same as they predicted at the end of 2024, so the way math works now China's share is going to show up as a higher percentage of total. Earlier their forecast for 2025 was 40 billion with 20% from China. Now the forecast is between 30 and 35 billion with 25% from China, which means China forecast was and still is ~8 billion. Newspapers are just spinning headlines to make it look like China demand suddenly increased.

btw, the news of CloudMatrix-384 and Ascend-910C is quite old.

Sina/Weibo has announced several days ago that they are already using Ascend/910C and it is much better than H20. I assume that they are using CloudMatrix-384 in Huawei Cloud

As such, the Reuters news is just behind the times.

And it's well known by this point that they got about 3 million Ascend dies fabb'd at TSMC last year, so they can supply well over 1 million 910C this year.

In terms of shipped equipment, in the etching field, the company's CCP etching equipment produced and shipped more than 1,200 reaction units in 2024, setting a historical high, and the cumulative installed capacity exceeded 4,000 reaction units; in the field of thin film deposition equipment, the cumulative shipments of LPCVD equipment have exceeded 150 reaction units, and in 2024, it received approximately RMB 476 million in bulk orders. ALD (atomic layer deposition) equipment and other key thin film deposition equipment research and development projects are progressing smoothly, and EPI (epitaxial) equipment has successfully entered the client mass production verification stage.


In the field of measurement equipment, AMD Semiconductor Equipment (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of AMEC, plans to increase its capital to 160 million yuan, and AMEC's shareholding ratio will drop to 47.2%, but it will still maintain control. Siwang Electronic Grade Ultra-High Purity Quartz Material Manufacturing Project, the equipment installation and commissioning of the first phase of the project is being accelerated, and the second phase of the project is being actively planned and prepared. The person in charge of the project introduced that the project construction adopts a "two-pronged" mode, on the one hand, the old factory frame structure is used to transform into a standardized workshop, greatly accelerating the progress of production; on the other hand, the product production is well grasped, and one workshop is transformed and put into production, including the cold processing workshop, the trough sinking workshop, and the spinning workshop have been put into production. At the same time, the CVD workshop has been transformed and is expected to be put into production this month.

It is understood that the project is invested and constructed by Jiangsu Siwang Electronic Materials Co., Ltd., located in Banqiao Industrial Park, Lianyun Economic Development Zone, and is mainly engaged in the research and development, production and sales of electronic special materials, optical glass, electronic components, etc., with an annual production capacity of 2,000 tons. The project is planned to be completed in two phases, with an investment of 457.8 million yuan in the first phase, covering an area of about 70 acres, to build a 450-ton/year electronic-grade ultra-high purity quartz crystal material production line; the second phase will invest 742.2 million yuan to build a 1,550-ton/year electronic-grade ultra-high purity quartz crystal material production line.

In the core part of the entire project, the CVD workshop, I put on shoe covers and just walked into the workshop. I could clearly feel the temperature rising around me, as if I had entered a "steaming room". It turned out that the heating system was working. The cylindrical furnace, which was like a "chimney", was emitting hot air continuously above my head. By burning hydrogen and oxygen, it gradually reached a high temperature of more than 1000 degrees, put in silicon tetrachloride, and processed it through chemical synthesis to produce silicon dioxide powder, creating ultra-high purity quartz.

The person in charge of the CVD workshop introduced: "Compared with general products, ultra-high purity quartz has improved properties in all aspects. It has some characteristics such as high purity, high light transmittance and stability. These properties make ultra-high purity quartz occupy an important position in some optical applications and equipment fields." In addition to the core production workshop, the first phase of the project also built a crystal deposition workshop, a silicon tetrachloride supply station, a gas supply station, a packaging workshop, a storage warehouse and ancillary facilities.

After the project is put into production, it is expected to achieve annual sales revenue of 700 million yuan and net profit of 280 million yuan. "This is not only a production line, but also a national strategic safety line." Wang Jinhai, chairman of Siwang Electronics, said that quartz crystal materials are the core materials in high-precision fields such as lithography machines, and have long been monopolized by foreign companies. The production of Siwang Electronics will completely break this technological blockade, achieve domestic substitution, and provide independent and controllable key materials for national key projects.

After the project is completed, it will attract upstream and downstream enterprises to gather and form a complete industrial cluster. Wang Jinhai said: "This will become a new highland for domestic quartz crystal materials and provide solid material support for national key projects."

Is smic unable to produce ascend chips? Relying on tsmc is probably a dead end.

What? TSMC is run by idiots who don't know their clients, especially with a big expensive chip like this?
What about the packaging.? There are very few clients in the world for chips like this and they all well known.

If Huawei is producing GPUs chiplets, they are doing in China or none at all.

If you can get a large volume of die produced by TSMC, why not? SMIC is still ramping up on its Finfet capacity and demand for Ascend chip is quite strong.

So now, Huawei has both whatever TSMC produced as well as whatever SMIC produces.
