Chinese semiconductor thread II

@huemens
I knew it when I saw CXMT at Hefei and YMTC at Wuhan change the design of their Phase II buildings. Instead of one continuous building, they split it in two halves. It was kind of obvious they were going for a segregated prototype line without US equipment.
If they also replaced the non-US Western equipment that is great news for them.

To do this the question is does WingSkySemi have all the necessary masks or not. Nexchip in the Netherlands probably holds all the designs.
Nexperia's product line are all discrete logic or single transistors / diodes, there are literally dozens of Chinese brands that makes the same product (and many with better performance), there's really not much to it when it come to masks.

Even if WingSkySemi don't already have masks at their operational fab, which they almost certainly do, it's not hard to just buy a mask from another Chinese supplier

Guochuangke G6 full-size new display printing equipment completed assembly

The main assembly of the G6 full-size new display inkjet printing system, independently developed by Guochuangke, was successfully completed. As early as 2020, the Guochuangke team independently developed the 200-type inkjet printing system. In September 2022, the country's first independently developed G4.5 high-resolution new display inkjet printing system entered the pilot production line. In October 2023, the Guochuangke G6H new display inkjet printing system was completed. Two years later, after overcoming numerous challenges, the core technical team of Guochuangke successfully developed and completed the G6 full-size new display inkjet printing system.

The G6 full-size new display printing system, compatible with substrates measuring 1850mm × 1500mm (and compatible with G5.5 (1500mm × 1300mm) and G8.6H (2290mm × 1310mm) substrates), is a high-end device developed for the efficient mass production printing of key functional layers in new display applications. Through independently developed key components, printing algorithms, and control software, the system precisely controls the ejection of hundreds of millions of ink droplets, coordinated with the precise movement of the substrate, achieving micron-level precision printing of massive droplets.
On a substrate of approximately 3 square meters, it can print precise patterns and uniform film layers with droplet spacings as small as tens of microns, meeting the mass production demands of high-generation production lines.

The completion of assembly of the G6 full-size new display inkjet printing system marks another major step forward for Guochuangke in the research, development, and industrialization of inkjet manufacturing equipment. Focusing on the key research and development of "large-scale printed display inkjet manufacturing technology and complete equipment," the company is innovating in the patterning, transfer, and integration of continuous stacked heterostructures. This will provide a key breakthrough for disruptive technological innovation in my country's display industry, assist leading domestic companies in accelerating the construction of printed display production lines, and propel my country's printed display industry to international leadership, helping the country's display industry transcend the uncharted territory of global leadership.

Series products

Guochuangke currently has five major inkjet printing equipment product lines: film series, RGB series, electrofluid series, auxiliary equipment series, and production line supporting equipment series. Each product line is centered around inkjet printing equipment, covering products ranging from small to large sizes. At the same time, it can be paired with corresponding auxiliary and supporting equipment to achieve a complete process solution, fully meeting the actual needs of customers and providing standardized high-end customization . Inkjet printing equipment can be mainly used in new display fields such as OLED, QLED , Mini/Micro LED, AR/VR, e- paper , and new energy fields such as solar energy. Guochuangke's innovative series of inkjet printing equipment has completed the compatibility verification of new display materials and functional layer printing testing to meet the needs of mass production applications.

Question, then why did Nexperia hold their market share? Is it just down to a better sales management/accounts team?

More on the Nexperia situation from someone in China if you can understand this.

If what this guy says is true, then all the new products by Nexperia are taped out on domestic 12-inch wafers (rather than the European 6/8-inch) and even GDS document are entirely with domestic design team. The production alone from Wingsky Semi's Chongqing and Lingang. It seems like they have at least 360k wpm in 6-inch wafer equivalent (vs about 100k in Europe). which means, all the assembly and testing in Dongguan can fully be supplied by Wingsky semi production and that a good chunk of global customer chips come from chips fabb'd and assembled in China. IDK, seems like a huge part of R&D are also in China. So, Nexperia's main draw is just the brand as well as its status as tier 2 auto supplier, so you don't have to get this certificate that will allow you to design auto grade chips.

I think Infineon has 12" fabs for power semis in Europe.

But yes if Nexperia China has GDS files they can make the product. It looks like Nexperia in Europe will have to continue making legacy products.

I think Wingtech should sue separately in Malaysia, Germany, and the UK to get those fabs as well. It might be futile but it is worth a shot.

Because it is a European company, the entry requirements at the EU regulatory level or at the European automaker level are much more relaxed than those for Chinese manufacturers, or to put it more bluntly, there is trade barriers. Wingtech acquired Nexperia for this reason, rather than some 6-inch wafer factory.

I doubt the European ones would be possible, especially UK. But Malaysia might work out.

SemiDrive's E3650 is now in mass production and has ASIL-D certification.

China's Wingtech, parent company of Nexperia, posts steady Q3 growth in revenue from chips despite challenges
Please, Log in or Register to view URLs content!
Wingtech announced that in the third quarter, its semiconductor business achieved revenue of 4.3 billion yuan ($603 million), up 12.20 percent year-on-year, with a gross profit margin of 34.56 percent and a net profit of 724 million yuan
By sales region, the company's semiconductor business revenue in the Chinese market reached a quarterly record high in the third quarter, representing a year-on-year increase of about 14 percent.
Revenue from the Chinese market accounted for 49.29 percent of the company's global total, continuing to be the fastest-growing and top strategic priority region.
However, uncertainties persist. ....The developments and potential impacts of these related events are difficult to quantify, and there remains uncertainty as to whether the semiconductor business can sustain the sound growth momentum seen in the first three quarters, the company said, noting that if control over Nexperia cannot be restored before the end of 2025, the company may face stage-specific risks of downward adjustments in revenue, profit, and cash flow.

Yes, this success is probably due to the fact that Neperie was poorly managed, as the Dutch court stated.
Indeed, these are the paradoxes, as one Czech playwright said...
