BYD has a lot of experience in power and automotive semiconductors given that their main business is EVs. Huawei has barely entered the business and they are not an automaker.
don't disagree with that. But my ultimate point is that having one company taking over is not a good thing for China's semi industry. It needs many people involved to push each other first. That's how you end up beating foreign chipmakers.

When the US stooge induced export controls started and accelerated in 2022, many people was worry that if US companies were completely barred from Chinese market, China will be left with just a handful of domestic tool suppliers, like just CETC in the ion implantation business, something that many people believe it to be no ideal. But that didn't happened, China went from 1 company offering high end ion implanters for ICs to almost 5 today, from celebrating the first 1 MeV ion implanter in 2019 to having companies domestically producing 8 MeV ion implanters.

So I don't think Huawei will dominate every single aspect of China semiconductor industry, no even in the GPU space, they have and they will have a lot of competition.

I do think Huawei will become more dominant the high end semiconductor IC manufacturing given that they are the ones with the biggest need for high end logic nodes, no just for GPUs but also for their Telecom business.

It is a mistake to aim for CUDA compatibility. Chinese AI vendors should just create their own standard. Otherwise they will perpetually be behind.
The Soviets stepped on that rake when they cloned the IBM S/360 and DEC PDP-11 to use their existing software.
Yeah agree. They need to agree on a major standard which most will adopt. This is the only way they even stand a chance to challemge CUDA's global dominance. Else which foreign country will even want to try and adopt a chinese platform/standard when even Chinese companies themselves are not doing so?lol
Plus having too many different types of the same thing is not effective..

China Semiconductor Probe Market
1758576621040.png

Breakthrough in domestic semiconductor probe technology

The semiconductor probe card industry has long been dominated by international giants, particularly in high-end applications. However, this situation is quietly changing. Although China's semiconductor probe card industry started relatively late, it has made significant progress in technology research and development and industrialization in recent years.

Domestic manufacturers have achieved significant breakthroughs in the field of high-pin-count MEMS probe cards. Companies such as Helin Micronano have successfully launched independently developed MEMS probe cards with up to 40,000 pins. These cards achieve industry-leading performance in key metrics such as high and low temperature resistance, current carrying capacity, and lifespan. Notably, these probe cards boast world-class current carrying capacity (1000mA) and high-frequency transmission performance, easily adapting to the latest equipment and gaining recognition and adoption from leading domestic chip companies.

Domestic manufacturers have also demonstrated innovative capabilities in structural design and reliability. Their unique probe card structure ensures high connection reliability and enables highly precise probe marks for reliable wafer testing. Even under harsh conditions of 175°C, their MEMS probes can produce stable probe marks, a performance that has reached internationally advanced levels.

Optimizing signal transmission performance is another key breakthrough. The patented "ultra-high-speed probe card" developed by companies like Suzhou Jingsheng Micronano introduces a lead frame structure and optimized support structure, enabling conductive traces to extend along inclined surfaces. This significantly optimizes signal transmission paths and reduces signal transmission losses, thereby increasing signal transmission bandwidth and stability, meeting the growing demand for ultra-high-speed testing.

Accelerated domestic substitution

China boasts the world's largest semiconductor consumer market, with a vast chip design, manufacturing, and packaging and testing industry generating robust demand for probe cards. In 2018, China's semiconductor probe card market was approximately US$135 million. Although the market declined in 2022 and 2023 due to cyclical fluctuations in the global semiconductor industry and international technological restrictions, it recovered to approximately RMB 1.646 billion in 2024. The market is projected to reach RMB 1.772 billion by 2025.

Local manufacturers are growing rapidly. While no mainland Chinese company is among the top ten global probe card manufacturers, a number of companies have emerged with the potential for breakthroughs. Companies like Qiangyi Semiconductor (Suzhou) Co., Ltd., Shenzhen Dogget Technology Co., Ltd., Suzhou Helin Micro-Nano Technology Co., Ltd., Suzhou Silicon Test Systems Co., Ltd., Suzhou Jingsheng Micro-Nano Semiconductor Technology Co., Ltd., and Zhejiang Weizhen Semiconductor are gradually narrowing the gap with leading international companies through years of technological accumulation and innovation.

The growth of these companies has benefited from the overall progress of the domestic semiconductor industry chain and the demand for domestic substitution. With the continuous expansion of domestic wafer manufacturing capacity and the rapid development of chip design companies, the demand for testing services continues to grow, providing a broad market space for local probe card companies.

As a key link in the semiconductor industry chain, semiconductor probe cards' technological prowess and industrial strength are directly linked to the overall competitiveness of a nation's semiconductor industry. While the global probe card market is still dominated by international giants, Chinese companies have made significant progress in technological breakthroughs and industrialization.

Therefore, with the acceleration of domestic substitution and the growing demand for emerging applications, China's semiconductor probe card industry is expected to achieve greater breakthroughs in technological innovation and market expansion. This process requires the industry to continuously invest in R&D, cultivate talent, and collaborate with upstream and downstream companies to gradually build an independent and controllable semiconductor testing industry chain ecosystem.
