I don't see 3nm is economically viable, especially without Chinese market

3nm fab require $20B investment, who can afford it, especially with this trade war going on

China doesnt ban 3nm, Chinese market is open for 3nm. Just let Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, Huawei release their smartphone with 3nm CPU then the selling begin.

Huawei is banned and soon Xiaomi

I haven't heard such a confirmed or non confirmed plan to ban Xiaomi/OPPO/Vivo/etc.

If that happen, Samsung, Apple, Nokia, Sonny Ericson, HTC will be the ones that can supply high end smartphone with 3nm to China market and will reap benefit from such a situation. But I dont think US will ban the rest of Chinese smartphone makers because they realize 3nm still need huge market.

@antonius123 bro TSMC 3nm had been delayed the expected date is moved from 2022 to 2023 instead maybe 2024 if the problem persist. Meanwhile SMIC 7nm N+2 is expected to be trial produced this year and if successful mass produced this October, So we are getting there. If that happen then the Chinese mid range phone had available chips to used and If couple with a 3D stacking chipset tech a competitive high end.

Good news bro; hopefully China can reduce the gap from 2 generation to just 1 generation due to the TSMC 3nm delay combined SMIC acceleration with N+2 this year, and hopefully China can start trial with 5nm by next year, otherwise the 2 generation gap will continue;

China should impose export taxes for Apple products, unless all sanctions on all Chinese companies are lifted. This would send Apple and foxconn into disarray, the US stock market into a tailspin, while the foxconn factories in covid-19 stricken India are not even up and running by any means. This would buy more time for Huawei's Kirin and Balong chips, while the perpetrators are scrambling.

Apple was/is considering Chinese suppliers like BOE display. Semiconductors isn't everything and Displays / memory all take up huge portion of cost of product.

Apple should be lured into China and made to consider more Chinese suppliers - even if it is for lower end models. Money is Money.

US bans and China doesn't. And that's good for China.
Strange times we live in.

Patience dude. You realize that US's testosterone-driven, chest-beating aggressiveness is the reason why it is in one mess after another? You want China to do the same?
