Well the original work was done by a Chinese at stanford.
@localizer , so Chinese university or even Asian in general is good at hard research but lack imagination compare to the West? or it is due to Cultural revolution? I believe that as the society evolve and the needs arise is where Innovation take place?

The biggest loser eventually could be TSMC and Taiwan

Now US wants to steal TSMC technology.

So you have 3 biggest markets, China, EU, and US all want to have high end semiconductor manufacturing at their soils!
The biggest loser would be current foundry leaders like TSMC, samsung.

Once TSMC in trouble, many of their engineers would run to China and this would reinforce the vicious cycle.

I predict Taiwan high-tech going down .

Looks like China is already doing research into the next generation EUV Lithograph.
China now knows it has to be independent in the development of all types of technologies as Western Countries will no longer supply these technologies to them.
This is a positive development and a very good change of mindset for China.

@WTAN thanks to Trump ;) , If successfully develop does it mean we're on par or even leap frog them? Do ASML had similar research development being done? If the Chinese state is involve it usually had a 3 way approach, the DUVL done during the 13th plan, EUVL within 2024 and this latest research another 5 years 2029 ,so 5-5-5

Not entirely related, but while South Korea is a major manufacturer of IC chips, chiefly memory chips, mostly by Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, one does not hear much with regards to South Korea in terms of producing semiconductors and IC chips manufacturing equipment. In fact, the trade restrictions and strict controls that Tokyo placed on Seoul in 2019, following a spat between the two on compensation of victims of forced labour, showed that South Korea is or at least was heavily dependent on Japanese sources for chip manufacturing materials and substances such as fluorinated polyamides, hydrogen fluoride gas, and photoresists. Is it safe to say that with regards to semiconductor and IC circuit manufacturing equipment, as well as the poduction of substances - such as the ones listed above - required for semiconductor and IC chip manufacturing, that China is significantly more advanced than South Korea?

China has a moral obligation to defeat the US, both for its sake as well as the sake of the world. This is the same regime that murdered 100 million indigenous people to create its country and is willing to murder 100 million more to maintain it (these are not my words, but those of Americans). All options must be on the table when it comes to dealing with these threats. Our cause is righteous, but depends on our own technological, economic, and organizational capabilities to make it possible. We must all contribute.

The Biden Administration is thinking significantly less along these lines. It is not friendly to China, but certainly much less inclined towards such great hostility and cold war thinking...
