The rare metal and new material industrialization project of Guangdong Leading Rare Materials Co., Ltd. started

On the morning of June 13, the rare metal and new material industrialization project of Guangdong Leading Rare Materials Co., Ltd. started. Huang Xiaowu, secretary of the Municipal Party Committee, announced the start of the project, and issued a letter of appointment as an investment consultant in Bengbu to Zhu Shihui, chairman of Guangdong Xiandao Rare Materials Co., Ltd., and Zhu Shiming, executive director. City leaders Ni Jiansheng, Guo Jiaman, Ge Rui and Ulanqige attended the meeting.
The rare metal and new material industrialization project of Guangdong Leading Rare Materials Co., Ltd. started

Guangdong Leading Rare Materials Co., Ltd. is the only national high-tech enterprise in the world with a complete industry chain of rare metals. The rare metal and new material industrialization project invested by the company in Wuhe, with a total investment of 1 billion yuan, mainly builds standard production lines for rare metal alloys and other products. The products are widely used in semiconductors, microelectronics, integrated circuits, aerospace, and general health. , smart city and other fields, after the project is put into production, the annual sales will not be less than 1.5 billion yuan.
In his speech, Huang Xiaowu congratulated the start of the project. He said that the rare metal and new material industrialization project of Guangdong Leading Rare Materials Co., Ltd. settled in Wuhe, and Zhu Shihui and Zhu Shiming were hired as city investment consultants, which will provide strong support for Wuhe County's industrial transformation and upgrading. It is hoped that Guangdong Leading Thin Materials Co., Ltd., while speeding up project construction, will actively play its own advantages and attract more upstream and downstream enterprises to Bengbu. The whole city, especially Wuhe County, should strive to create a first-class business environment , fully serve the development of projects, strive to cultivate and attract more outstanding talents, and contribute more to the economic and social development of the city.

Well, I can't contribute much to this thread so I'm just showing off my latest purchases (Zhitai TiPro 7000 1TB & Fanxiang S100 Pro 2TB, YMTC NAND). Hopefully I'm doing my part to help China's semiconductor advances.

Wouldn’t it have been better to get the 4TB YMTC @tphuang posted a few days ago?

I'm really curious what kind of margins YMTC is getting, because its fabbing 4TB SSDs that's selling for under 1000 RMB

The demand for SSD must still be really weak, because I don't think YMTC is actually producing more wafers.

YMTC fab'd SSDs with 7450 MB/s read & 6500 MB/s (using 232 layers according to this) on sale for 1079 RMB for 4 TB version

also with predator, similar speed 2TB going for under 500 RMB

Again, we see weekly reports of just how cheap SSDs are going for in China.

on recently announced MXC500 AI training GPU

They actually formed partnership with UCloud in Jan 2022 to develop high end GPU for cloud computing and smart city project. UCloud has I think some market share in China. So they got help in bringing this to the market

MXC500 just finished testing recently

Interestingly that most of the analysis I've read either boils down to China can't make lithography machines because it involves X number of countries worldwide and Y number of suppliers (this argument appears many, many times and the number of countries and suppliers just keep multiplying) or there is no lithography talent available in the country...

If anything, having suppliers from all over the world is a disadvantage as it creates logistical issues.

Is a narrow view that some people and ignore factors that some stooges are ignoring before recommending policies to some politicians.

ASML presence in China has been probably one the biggest reason why domestic frontend litho machines didn't did well because why any Chinese fab would even considered using SMEE when ASML can deliver them cutting edge machines next month and offer a AAA service. A positive feedback loop never developed.

I think when SMEE developed their ArF machines in 2011 was pretty much a good achievement considering the size of SMEE compared with other companies, even with government support.
1686859186813.png
Taking into account that with NONE of the current China lithography suppliers existed at the time.
Neither UPrecision, RSlaser, gnotipx, Guowang Optical, DJEL and others. SMEE did it almost entirely on their own with help of some Chinese research institutes, The wafer stage, optics, mask handling, the excimer Laser, the metrology. But the issue again is that there was no need for domestic litho machines when Chinese fabs have access to the most cutting edge machines that ASML offered at the time. By the time some fabs where testing SMEE dry ArF machine SMIC was buying the latest immersion lithography machines from ASML.

So yes, China can develop their own lithography machines, the success of these machines will depend of market conditions rather than supposed China abilities, if they have a need they will find a way, is inevitable, the more pressure they have that faster they will develop. Of course at first this will create very roughed-unpolished machines but with the lack of a killer competitor like ASML will give any company time to interact and invest in polishing their products instead of abandon it (A positive feedback loop). Like I said it would be inevitable. Also I think given the size of China and its research capabilities, it could develop their own lithography supply chains on their own, in fact that is what they trying of doing right now. That country is an entire world on its own with a lot of research capabilities.

Lets be fair here, ASML is pretty damn good semiconductor equipment company, with a good supply chain and a lot of talent, it has clear advantages over all the other companies, the problem is that in order to keep their monopolistic position, they need to be there, it needs to be anywhere, anyplace, anytime were there is competition or potential competition, they need to bring the competition down. They need to shovel their products down people throats. So they will go with them and not even considered to go with the competition. China is a huge market, any company who gets big in China gets big globally, that is a potential huge problem for a company like ASML, in the case of EUV, any unchecked competitor will cheapen the value of EUV lithography in general, is a technology where ASML desperately needs to maintain monopolistic position. That is why I said before that once China research institutions test China first decent volume EUV machine and Chinese companies develop their local EUV supply chain, ASML will put an enormous pressure to be allow to sell EUV machines in China again.
