Yeah. They have been importing US tools from Singapore instead. We talked about this here some time ago. These US companies risk getting hit with massive fines, like what happened to Seagate over selling hard disks to Huawei. Despite the Seagate hard disks being made totally outside the US, mainly in Thailand, US government still sued Seagate because they are HQed in the US and had design offices in the US.

Huawei Hisilicon V811 chip has been unveiled 4K display

Don't have the nm process or anything like that. But in this day & age, SMIC growth is tied to Huawei growth in some ways, since Huawei just can't make its own advanced chips in the near future. As Huawei & Hisilicon grab back more of its market share in different space, SMIC will gain market share also

Actually, looks like it's an improved version of 鸿鹄818 https://baike.baidu.com/item/鸿鹄818/23665699
which is made up of A73+A53双架构4核CPU和4核G51 GPU

So looks like this is actually going to require at least FinFET process.
looks like another screen is using this quad-core display chip that can handle 4K display

says that's using Hisilicon quad-core flagship CPU with 2 DRAM & 32GB SSD. I can only assume we are seeing more of this because this new V811 is in production now

alright, looks like desktop using Loongson is doing well on JD.com, ending top in certain category

also, looking at JD itself

I just see 200+ reviews of perfect scores with people supporting domestic product

Also looks like Loongson's 2K1500 industrial control CPU has been tested for 3408 hours in Ningxia wind farm. Good news, since that means they can now enter Datang's supply chain for operating various power sector systems

It is time to ban Intel and AMD !!

There is no point buying anything american and japanese nor koreans once Chinese domestic product match up or even superior !!

Domestic production increases slightly. Imports of chips down significantly. It is a good sign that China has become more self reliance.

China's chip imports slumped nearly 20 per cent in the first five months of 2023, according to official customs data, as trade with South Korea and Japan shrank amid an intensified US-China tech war.

From January to May, China's imports of integrated circuits (ICs) dropped 19.6 per cent year on year to 186.5 billion units, slightly narrowing the 21.1 per cent drop recorded in the first four months, according to data published by the General Administration of Customs on Wednesday. The total value of chip imports fell 24.2 per cent to US$131.9 billion in the five-month period.

However, China's domestic chip output is seeing a recovery, as Beijing continues to offer preferential policies and financial support for its domestic chip supply chain under

I don't know the details but I think the argument was there was still "US stuff" in the Seagate product and the activity was directed from the US offices even though hard disk technology is old, made overseas and mostly off patent. Seagate also didn't exactly have much time to assess and put in place contingencies when the Huawei bans took place whereas LAM/AMAT/KLA/etc have also had more time to prepare and vet their plans. Regardless, we don't know how their company operations are structured so we will just have to wait and see if there is anything the government can go after them for. It's not like this is a secret, the companies have basically been hinting on earnings calls that they have diversification strategies in place. However, in my experience in the regulatory score of corporations vs US government its mostly been a roflstomp for Corporations for decades.

I do hope all or the majority are due to using domestic tools.
I thought the ban is about the IP and technologies from the US, and doesn't matter where it is produced
I want to first say everything that USA is doing is incredibly stupid, so the loophole is stupid too. These US companies opened up foreign companies in SE Asia. These companies aren't tied to USA. They send parts to these companies that assemble them and sell them to China as their own products. Thus cannot fall under the US law. Seagate didn't do that, they used a subsidiary. Yes, it's incredibly stupid.

Seagate has corporate headquarters in Ireland. It is just that it is basically used for tax evasion purposes. The real operational headquarters is in California.

Apart from the prices (28nm is 2.891$ per wafer), it is to note that it took 10 years, from 2004 to 2014, to go from 90 to 20nm, but only 4 years from 20nm down to 7nm. IMHO once the 28/20nm node will be localized (including lithography), it will be a matter of a couple of years to go down to 7nm.
