that would work out to 8.25B RMB in 4 years or about $1.2B. If we use $5 million by WingLoong including purchasing cost and after service support, that would be 240 wingLoong. A few of these are probably for export market, but I would imagine a minimum of 30 a year for PLA seems reasonable

From the same meeting/seminar a few days ago where they talked about the major progress on WS-10C, WS-15, WS-19 and 5th-gen low-bypass turbofan engines:

According to Cheng Cheng, project leader of Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics:
The high-performance aviation tube(?) 3D digital integrated molding solution has been applied to (the developmental work of) six advanced aircraft, including J-35, a certain type of high-tier UAV, J-16, J-15, J-20, and J-10 series fighters.

Does anyone know what the "certain type of high-tier UAV" posted in the Chengdu's row in the presentation is? Is it a loyal wingman UCAV project of some sort by Chengdu?

LMAO they used the wall climber photo for J-35.

that might have something to do with a Loyal Wingman type UCAV. The paper deals with the turbulent flows experienced by open weapons bays during flight. Of interest, the study paid special attention to tandem cavities/weapons bays, calling it an important arrangement for future weapons bay design. The paper focuses on simulating airflows around open tandem bays when a hypothetical airframe is flying at Mach 0.85. The tandem bays each has a length-to-depth (L/D) ratio of 3.5, which are obtained by dividing a longer bay (L/D ratio of 7) in half with a metal plate.

Abstract: With the development of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) technology, the hybrid Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS)/large eddy simulation (RANS/LES) method has been increasingly applied to the simulation of large separation flows and aeroacoustics in the aviation field, and fine results have been achieved. In this paper, the

model is selected to validate the hybrid RANS/LES method under the condition of Ma=0.85, and the grid sensitivity analysis is carried out. Then, several key factors affecting the cavity flow are simulated, and the main results are obtained. Finally, the flow characteristics of tandem cavities with L/D=3.5 derived from a cavity with L/D=7 through inserting a plate in the middle are studied.

WTF... U.S. intelligence seems to suggest WZ-8 flew over South Korea and Taiwan. The routes are "projected" and "not necessarily authoritative," but worth a look if anyone is interested.

Funny the intelligence had a typo on Lu'an AB by spelling it as Liuan.
A map of projected routes, labeled “not necessarily authoritative,” suggests ways the drone’s “Electro-optical” cameras and sensors could gather intelligence on Taiwan’s main island and the western side of South Korea including Seoul, the capital city.

I wouldn't necessarily take the info as telling us anything new.

The information on that paper seems very very room temperature and is looks more like about illustrating to a reader that WZ-8 exists (i.e. that the reader probably didn't know it was even a thing) and conveying some findings of imagery of a few related bases, and a self made hypothesized CONOPs.
