I wonder what this variant is. Communications perhaps? If so, the radome differs considerably to the known communications variant.

Looks like equipment used for jamming and electronic countermeasures purposes.

Interesting look a Mengshi remote weapon station. I guess they start to equip the Tibet front line troop with this redesigned Mengshi II. It has small monitor and the operator manipulate weapon by turning direction wheel Minute 6:00. Seem to be bigger and heavier than the original Mengshi

The main content of this program: After many years of improvement and development, a completely redesigned military off-road vehicle is not afraid of the severe cold, galloping on the plateau, and becoming a weapon in the hands of the border light synthetic forces. In this episode, let us follow the lens of the reporter to the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, which is more than 4,500 meters above sea level, and watch the new generation of "warriors" attack.

Similar Soviet/Russian BMD vehciles haven't performed well on different conflicts, especially now when 30mm autocannon can be installed on humwee style platforms, maybe it's usefull in extremely limited roles.

tbh i dont think that thing will even be able to stand against an rpg-7 let alone an rpg-28 or even an autocannon of any kind. the PLA should be retiring those obsolete equipment already

It seems to me if the enemy forces there possess substantial anti-armor capability, the airborne forces should never have been there at all. Airborne forces should be inserted quickly and opportunistically against enemy communication lines in the rear that for various the enemy left uncovered. Geography may require the airborne forces to land some distance from the actual site. Once on the ground the air need to move quickly and rapidly overwhelm light resistance by 3rd line units. Hence light airdropped armored vehicles are essential.

But if the airborne unit finds itself fighting heavy enemy ground units after landing, someone further up the chain of command needs to be shot.
