True to a point but the zombie apocalypse scenario is a riot like seen so as long as the vehicle chassis is properly reinforced and the doors and windows are properly rigged not to open. The passengers can sit it out with out much issues.
These are obviously MRAP based vehicles. I wonder if the PLA is thinking of ditching the Dongfang hummers for these. The US is aiming to do something like that with the JLTV based L-ATV derivative of the Oshkosh Defense M-ATV used extensively in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Proliferation of RPG and now ATGM and small arms means that the traditional approach to to general utility vehicles for the military has become quite costly and vehicles like the Jeep and Hummer are more and more limited in what they can actually accomplish vs the mission needs. Traditional MRAPs however have limits as well mostly because of the heavy curb weight vs performance numbers of converted or reused chassis up armored or first generation MRAPs are restricted to on roads and dare not venture into the bush.
More specialized vehicles have evolved though. But limitations still exist as the weight of the vehicles mean that getting them into and out of country is more difficult vs traditional vehicles in response platforms like the MRZR and DAGR UTU have emerged for use by Airborne and Rapid reaction units. Well others like the French have gone a step farther and blended a MRAP with a Amphibious assault vehicle.
