YJ-19 confirmed to be submarine launched.
I suppose that wording doesn't rule out submarine VLS entirely, but I think torpedo tube is a pretty safe bet.

Xiyazhou and someone, might have been Shilao speculated last week that YJ-19 might be intended for 054A's small VLS, I thought they were been hasty with that one so I didn't repeat it here. Looks the initial assessment that it was for 533mm tube was more correct.

That would explain the door on the intake too.

Whats the difference between VLS vs torp tube launch? Is one preferable to another?
VLS doesn't have to be the same diameter as torpedo tube, you could easily have 533mm torpedo tube while your VLS is 850mm.

Operationally a sub can empty its VLS very quickly, where as with torpedo tube launched missiles the rate of fire is limited by the speed that the tubes can be reloaded at, on top of the fact that you probably don't want to use all of your tubes to launch missiles as you'll want to keep at least some of them loaded with torpedo for self defence during a launch.

TLDR for shooting cruise missiles VLS is just better, but of course you'll need a much bigger boat to fit them.

"Trust yankee bro" moment lol
Yankee also said people are asking him in private where is the HCM for 850mm UVLS, to which he's advice is don't worry there is one, making a bigger HCM is not that hard, it's shrinking one down to 533mm that's hard.

The joke internally is apparently YJ-19 is miniaturised to such an extreme degree to get it all fit that it's like that bit in Three Body Problem were they send only that guy's brain in a spacecraft to the Trisolarians.

At Thursday's Chahuahui Yankee/Shilao/Ayi said one of the reason why so many naval hypersonic weapons were shown off was to correct the misconception that YJ-18 is the standard issue anti-ship missile while YJ-20 is a rare, highly treasured decisive battle weapon that the west imagines requires the captain and the political officer to do a whole song and dance with each of them taking out a missile key around their neck, inserting it into a special machine and simultaneously turning just to unlock and use. By showing off so many hypersonic weapons, most of them more advanced than YJ-20 the idea is to send the message that no, hypersonic missiles are the standard issue, even for things like 052D.

Same case with how the USAF and USN view AIM-260 versus how the PLAAF and PLAN view PL-16.

USAF and USN: "AIM-120D-3 (AMRAAM D3) would serve as a complement to the JATM (AIM-260); the JATM would be an expensive "kick-the-door-down" weapon while the AMRAAM D3 would be a more affordable capacity missile"

PLAAF and PLAN: "Lmao PL-16 go BRRRRTTTTT"
