after WS-15 confirmation this chart also talk about combined cycle engine in today's conference by Academician from Chinese Academy of Engineering. TBCC engine. interesting

T/W stands for Thrust-to-Weight ratio, P/W stands for Power-to-Weight ratio.

If we can't find other sources of this engine picture, can we think it is very likely to be WS-15?

Don’t think so. From the sounds of it this is just the gearbox for the engine.
Maybe a stupid question, except the gearbox between the low speed shaft and the fan, where else does the engine need a gearbox?

  • 20MW is not enough to drive the fan, but it is only a test article, not engineering article.
  • COMAC system department published a paper regarding this test.

I have no clue if the user is correct, but furthermore if you have equivalent power but much lower mean-time between overhaul wouldn't your just be sacrificing engine life for power output?
I don't find any value in discussing hypotheticals with no basis in reality - like the idea that Chinese engines sacrifice life for power, which is nothing more than a meme. Until it's proved to be true, it's a waste of time to discuss it.

Discussions here often take the form "I have no idea if X is true, but here are X's implications." The assumptions underpinning these discussions need to be re-evaluated from A to Z. The "fact" that Chinese engines have lower life is one such assumption.

Candidate configuration sounds about right to me.

Does that look like a radial HP compressor or are my eyes deceiving me?

I think people who understand Mandarin Chinese should listen to the whole presentation. A lot of valuable information about turbofan engine/large body aircraft. The fact that Liu Daxiang is so optimistic about engine progress (that China will be first tier in 3 to 5 years) is very encouraging, considering the fact that he is always very forthcoming about shortcomings of China's turbofan development process. If I recall correctly he leaked in his book some of the problems encountered during the WS-15 development process (fan blade failure/engine explosion) and he was especially critical of AVIC's management style. I guess the process has been refined/reformed in the seven years following 2015.

Was that the only leak about the WS-15?

The creation of AECC in 2016 out of the various AVIC engine departments was a milestone event.
