Chinese Economics Thread

China's current economy is far more resilient than in 2018, when Trump started the first trade war.

Just in case you still don't know who Michael Pettis is.

Given how long Michael has been working at Beida, my guess is he's an information warrior for China against the West. Especially important now that Gordon Chang is not as effective as he used to be. Peter Zeihan and Jordan Peterson tried to carry the torch but it's just too stressful to be an information warrior so they've started burning out very prematurely.

lol why does China make so much fuss when other countries decide to discuss if they will increase tariffs on Chinese goods(like with Mexico recently) but they remain silent when Russia does even more than that?

Because one is driven—implicitly or explicitly—by US pressure, and the other is not. It's very important to make examples of those who align with the US, to discourage others from following along.

Depends on whether Russia put tariff on all countries for a specific product or only on China. If they put tariff on countries for a specific product, that is allowed under WTO rules. If they only target one country, then that is illegal under WTO.

When your best bro backs into your car, you tell him it's OK. When some random stupid asshole backs into your car, you call the police, your lawyers, and the insurance companies and get witnesses/subpoena security video if needed.

A container ship arrived at Felixstowe UK from Ningbo China after 20 says on sea through the Arctic Ocean. Had the weather been better, it could have completed the journey in 18 days. In comparison, freight ships taking the Suez and the Cape of Good Hope routes usually need 40 and 50 days, respectively. Cargoes on the China-Europe freight railway need 25 days to reach their destinations.
